    everything? ~

A rucksack is needed for any trips or excursions to pack all your everyday needs such as water, sun tan lotions, aspirin/imodium, Towels, camera and money.

Lots of Summer clothing is needed, swim suits, bikinis, shorts, t-shirts, sandals and flip flops. Long trousers and long sleeved tops are needed if you are visiting holy places such as Mosques or monastries. In the winter months i would advise to take a light jacket for the evenings as it does get a little bit chilly as you are by the sea. However during the day it is always very warm sun bathing weather.

Toiletries are widely available allover Sharm and are very cheap compared to England. You can buy them from the local pharmacies or supermarkets.

A good camera is needed for Sharm, there lots of beautiful photo opportunities and fabulous sunsets to get some excellent photos. Also an underwater camera is ideal for any boat trips or snorkelling/diving.

A good pair of sensible shoes is needed for any excursions you do where you will be walking in the heat. Also sunhats/sun glasses are needed as the heat in Egypt can become very hot.

I would advise buying some hand sanitiser spray or gel as the money in Egypt is filthy, i have heard it is the money that can cause a bad tummy and not the food or climate like most people think. Therefore i always carry a bottle for when i cannot wash my hands.
Also take packets of tissues with you as not all public places have it in the toilets.

take a rucksack in your suitcase, its handy for putting all your swimwear in when you go to the beach, or for taking on trips. You can also then fill it up with anything that you buy over there for the way back!

Sandals and closed in shoes (for coloured canyon, quad biking or st Catherines) Also a long sleeved shirt and trousers for any monasteries/temples you may visit or for protecting you from the sun.

Dyrelite rehydration sachets are great to keep in your medi box, and can be a real life saver if you have had too much sun. Piriton anti hystemines for any allergies or reactions you may suffer ( kids can take them too) and of course plenty of sun lotion.

usual cameras, videos, underwater camera a must!

snorkel, mask and fins for definate, though you can hire them there at a reasonable cost, on our beach you could hire the lot for about 85LE for 5 days hire

Beach Shoes! there are lots of sea urchins here, dont wade into the sea without beach shoes! They can be bought locally if you cannot find any at home.

Stock up on rehydration salts either before you go or in resort, they are a lifesaver. Especially if you go during the hottest months. Both myself and a girl I met there suffered from dehydration and ended up almost fainting - 5 minutes after having a salt we were right as rain. It does taste like drinking salty water - but you get used to it!

Underwater camera is a must! Even if you just go snorkelling you can get some great pictures. We bought a disposable one there for 100LE. I'm sure you could get it much cheaper before you go.

Take LOADS of sun tan lotion it is sooooooo expensive in resort. Things like shower gel, hairspray, tampons etc are expensive too, so make sure you have plenty. You're not really in the mood to shop for the best price when you need particular toiletries pronto!

My trusty wheeled duffle made another trip!

Daytime Bikin and sarong for the beach
If uyou are going shopping wear long flowing trousers and a light scarf to cover shoulders and chest.
Evening wear trousers and a warm wrap.

Take everything you need from home. First aid equipment and medicines are scarce and expensive.

You can buy underwater cameras here but they are expensive. Take all electrical equipment and entertainment from home.

I could not find anywhere that sold headphones or DVDs

    Prepare for Chilly Desert Nights

  • You might want to bring a spare suitcase if it's your first visit to Egypt, as you are going to want to buy all around you. I'll prepare a shopping tip soon, but for now I'll advise you to pack lightly on the outbound journey and be prepared for a possible excess luggage charge on the way home :-)

Most recently I travelled in December/January and didn't bring any warm gear with me. It was a mistake. For the first three nights it was quite cold and I would have welcomed a cardi or sweatshirt.

If you plan to go on any of the trips you might bring a good pair of walking shoes or runners - for example, the trip to Moses Mountain or St. Catherine's Monastery both involve a lot of walking.

Again for the trips pack a long sleeved top as you will be required to cover up in the religious sites.

The pharmacy near our most recent hotel was excellent, but you really should pack some mosquito repellant - and use it!

I take hundreds of pics every time I visit Egypt, as there's just so much to see. I found it almost impossible to purchase additional memory discs for my digital camera in Cairo, so bring plenty with you.

Pack some light clothing since the temperatures are very high from the end of April till the end of Sept. Something with long sleeves too if yu get sunburnt.

Many people get diarrhea beacuse of the sun, the water and food altogether and there is only some Egyptian pills that will help. They can be bought in every pharmacy and tourist guides always warn people about this problem.
Bring the strongest sun factor cream you can find, the sun in Sharm literally burns.

Underwater cameras can be bought in many shops in Naama Bay, but if you have one bring it along since the underwater world is stunning.

    Don't forget your sun lotion!
    by Kaysta
Have a large suitcase because i took so much back from Sharm to England! I'm so glad that i had a large hardcase! Also, if your going on excursions i'd recommend that you take a rucksack so you can take all your essentials with you. If your a beach person, take a light bag to carry your sunlotion, towels etc.

I'd recommend that you pack as much light clothing as possible, its always hot in Sharm, even at night! If you are going in the cooler months then maybe some long sleeved tops should be more than enough. Remember to pack a hat! Especially if you have children - it is hot and this will help prevent sunstroke. Of course, don't forget your sunglasses - 100% UV protection if possible! I would also take an old t-shirt to wear whilst you are in the sea, as the water magnifies the sun and you can come out with a nasty burn!

Pack plenty of immodium, dyralite and alcohol hand gel. Use your hand gel at least before every meal as the Eygptian bank notes carry germs and will prevent you from having an upset stomach on your holiday. You may want to pack some insect repellent, i was fine when i went, maybe the odd one or two bites. If you suffer from been bitten then i'd get some. Make sure it's for tropical climets and contains deet no less than 30% or it won't work. If you are taking any medication then bring more than enough with you just incase, you may not find a replacement for it in Sharm. Although they have good Pharmacies, it is quite expensive - when i had the a cold i got some Strepcills and it cost me about £6. Take any form of pain killers or cold medicene that you may need. I also took a first aid kit, just incase. Don't forget to take plenty of sun lotion, it is very hot here...no lower than a factor 15 which is applied regularly! It would be best if you could get a waterproof sun lotion.

Take plenty of film, believe me you'll need it! Especially if you are going on excursions to Ciaro or Luxor. I have a digital camera and took 1GB memory card, which was more than enough if you have your Megapixels on a 3 setting. Don't forget that you will need an universal plug adapter to charge your camera or purchase plenty of batteries if your using a film camera.

The weather is so hot that it's almost impossible to walk on the beach without flip flops! I took a cheap pair for the beach as the sand stains them. Also, if you are going in sea i'd wear aqua shoes to protect your feet...you don't want to stand on something that may sting you! Plus it will protect you from any cuts on shells or coral.

  • Daytime-minimal clothing, its so hot!!! BUT, I am naturally olive skinned (never use sun screen) and very rarely burn , but boy did I burn in Sharm!!! Slap that sun lotion on, serioulsy.
In the evenings it can get a bit chilly, so bring a couple of jumpers.

If you climb Mount Sinai, wear lots and lots of layers. It is freezing!!!!!!! Hats, scarves, jumpers, coat, etc. BELIEVE ME

    Have Fun

  • You don't need a lot of stuff - you can easily wash things like underwear and t-shirts out in your hotel (do it while you're showering and help save water) and they'll quickly dry.

Take an old pair of trainers or shoes that are closed and comfortable if you think you might travel beyond your resort - the desert is sand, of course, but also contains stones that are very annoying in your flip-flops!

Take a hat or something you can wrap around your head to protect yourself from the sun.

I recommend taking all your preferred toiletries and medicines, and include something for a jippy tummy - hopefully you won't need it....

Make sure you take high factor suncream - we used two bottles of factor 30 in a week.

An underwater camera would be fun if you think you might snorkel or scuba - or even to take photos of the coral and fish from the jetties.

You might like to take your own snorkelling gear but it is easily available and cheap to buy or hire in Sharm.

Make sure you have something you can wear that covers your knees and shoulders (and the bits between) if you think you may visit any religious places. Dressing conservatively will also mean you draw less attention to yourself when you are out and about - this is a Muslim country.

  • Lots of Bikinis, shorts its very hot even in the evening, and make sure to take a hat to keep the sun off, and something light to cover yourself if travelling in the sun.

Make sure to take plenty of paracetamol / painkillers , i had terrible tooth ache and used the few we had. They sold painkillers at the Chemist but thay were very expensive approx ?3-4.00.

A good waterproof suncream is esential, if you plan on being in the water alot take a old T-Shirt you dont mind getting wet and wear it whilst snorkelling as the water magnifies the sun.

    Water proof camera

Some good books to read, im already on the look out for a new one, think i will be investing in Jordans latest 'A Whole New World' can't wait to read it.
