By the gates - a very orderly queue... ;o) by FletteMette Sharm El Sheikh airport can imho best be described as chaotic... :o) It is obviously too small for the large amount of tourists this area gets. Our arrival was fairly painless, we had our visas already and didn't have to stand in the *very* long queues to get visa-on-arrival. There are lots of guys in the arrivals area very eager to give you a trolley or "help" you with your suitcases - they'll expect you to pay them a couple of LE for their services. If you don't want any "help" a very firm "no thanks" will do the trick. The departure was *very* chaotic. You will have to x-ray all your bags, not only the hand luggage - so you'll need to be able to lift your suitcases up (almost) a meter or so onto the conveyor belt (Or you can pay someone a couple of LE to do it for you). Check-in was pretty slow and inefficient - remember to get the exit card for immigration, which you'll have to fill out before going through passport control. (You're supposed to get this card at check-in, but the officers didn't give it to everyone). The smoke filled departure hall has a few shops and some caf?s, but was *very* crowded and it was impossible to find somewhere to sit. Don't go through the scanners to the gates too early, as there's only a seating area, nothing else, by the gates (not even toilets). Pay close attention to the announcements, as the information given on the screens could not be trusted. (Two planes were supposedly being boarded through the same gate at the same time, and our delayed plane was said to be departed approx. 1,5 hours before we actually took off...;o) Update: a second terminal was opened in 2007. Which, hopefully, will mean that the situation at Sharm el Sheikh international airport has improved since our visit in 2006! Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

you can go from Cairo to Sharm either by bus or by plane n i advice you to go by plane cuz its much easier n it will just take 45minutes to get there while going by bus will take 7hours moreover it will b a very tiring journey so it would be better to go by plane if you can afford it Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

by minhillier After reading previous posts, I was dreading the journey home, but things have changed It was straightforward, a lot easier than UK Lots of scanners etc, but really fast, originally we were told no liquids, but the Local guide said we could take a litre of liquid, we took in two cans coke, no problem. Buy snacks/drinks prior to going to airport, very expensive, duty free prices in dollars, 200 cigs approx £12.00, litre booze approx £10 Dont trust departure displays, listen for tannoy, it is clear, if you have hearing problems talk to one of the airport staff in departures, very helpful (without sticking hands out for tips) Look for Anas, (see photo) he works on departure desks/area, lovely kind Fella (say hello from Tom & Mary) Theme: Airplane

The best way to get to Sharm is to go by plane. There are plenty of flights directly from Western European airports, especially Italy and Germany. Also flights from Russia, Ukraine and other Eastern European places. The other alternative is a flight to Cairo and then a domestic flight with Egypt Air to Sharm (50 minutes). The bus trip from Cairo to Sharm takes about 7 hours and is not interesting. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

the Suez canal by belgrade03 The fastest and easiest way to get to Sharm is by plane. There is an international airport about 15 minutes drive from Naama Bay. It is currently being reconstructed. This is also a unique opportunity to see the Sinai Peninsula and the Suez canal. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

I normally transit Cairo on my way to Sharm el Sheikh and pick up Egypt Air in Cairo. Departing from the domestic terminal in Cairo, Egypt Air offers flights starting around 6am through midnight to/from Sharm International Airport. The time of the flights varies each day but there are flights every day to/from Cairo. The cost is approximately 100-120 Euros for a round-trip flight. Flights can be booked online through the Eygpt Air website or through a travel agent. The several times I have flown with Egypt Air I've always been impressed with the quality of the airplanes...so don't be scared off by the simplicity and age of the domestic terminal! Most of the planes were new if not brand-new Boeing's. There was always a small snack and boxed juice drink served along with tea/coffee even though the flight is only one hour. Inflight entertainment includes a monthly magazine called Horus and a video on the reefs in Sharm el Sheikh.

Walkin' from Delta sharm to Sharm by czechguy When staying in Sharm for couple of days make sure you use the internet. Especially check on-line the discount flights prices from Sharm to Cairo, sometimes there are availabel almost for the same price as the bus. Believe me. But make sure you book the flight at least couple of days in advance. You feel me? Theme: Airplane

A large, fixed price taxi fare sign. by mr.small These prices are the ones fixed by the local Sinai government. The fixed price sticker for each type of taxi should be fixed in clear view on one of the windows, but may be hidden. They are about 4" across and round.I will update these prices if they change. LE = Egyptian pound Minibus (fixed routes) From-Old Market, To- Naama Bay, Price= LE 1 From-Old Market, To-Airport ,Price= LE 2 From-Old Market, To- Nabq,Price= LE 3 Taxi (white Bonnet) From-Naama Bay, To- Old Market, Price=LE 15 From-Naama Bay,To- Hadaba,Price= LE 15 From-Naama Bay,To- Airport,Price= LE 20 From-Old Market,To- Hadaba,Price= LE 15 From-Old Market,To- Airport,Price= LE 35 From-Old Market,To- Nabq,Price= LE 40 Peugeot (Blue Bonnet) From-Naama Bay, To- Old Market ,Price= LE 25 From-Naama Bay,To- Hadaba,Price= LE 25 From-Old Market,To- Hadaba,Price= LE 25 From-Naama Bay,To- Airport,Price= LE 35 From-Old Market,To- Nabq,Price= LE 45 To work out the price of the complete journey that is not listed just add the 2 or 3 legs together. I.E. from Hadaba to the airport in a taxi it would be LE 15 for the Hadaba to Naama Bay plus LE 20 for Naama Bay to the airport making a complete fare of LE 35. Unfortunately you will never get these prices from the taxis inside the airport, they normally want at least 4 times the proper rate. To get these prices we walk the 100 yards from the terminal building up to the main road and get one from there, these will still try it on but can be beaten down to the right price pretty easily.
