We decided to take a glass bottom boat trip because I had never done one before. We booked it at the sister hotel to ours (i think it was Albatros something, ours was the Aqua Blu) as they offered better prices than our hotel but I think you can do trips like this from many places around Sharm.

Anyway we hopped on a little speedboat from the beach which took us over to the glass bottom boat. I think the trip lasted about an hour and on the way out to sea we sat downstairs looking at the fish below. The boat then stopped and we could buy ice cream (yum!) then we could watch the waves and the boats on the shore from the top deck on the way back.

The Red Sea is teeming with beautiful fish and is one of the best places to snorkel. We didn't snorkel as we'd done that in the Great Barrier Reef Australia and decided to spend our money checking out Ancient Egypt with a pricey trip to Cairo.

Glass bottom boat is worth doing but it won't blow your mind.

Sharm El-Sheik is one of the worlds best diving destinations, so there are many dive clubs around. The underwater scenery is wonderfull with scenic reefs, colourfull coral and exotic fishes.

If you don´t want to go into the water for scubadiving or even snorkeling, you can take the glassbottom boat. The first time in Sharm we took one of these boats. The views at the reefs and fishes through the glass bottom were great.

Silly me here decided to jump off my hotels Jetty, big mistake. Hehe. I didn't realise how deep it was after the coral and that the waves were strong when they were hitting against it. I nearly drowned. Which was shocking as i'm a good swimmer, but couldn't compete with those waves.

ANYWAY, i was upset about this as i really wanted to see the beautful fish up close, so walking around Naama Bay and been asked to go on a glass bottom boat seemed a good idea. As the boat took us out you could see the beautiful fish pass by, it was amazing. The boat stops further out by Naama Bay and near some coral so you can see the best of the fish. They usually let you stop for some snorkelling, which is completely fine here has the sea is so calm. Even after my scare i even snorkelled here, however if your unsure you can rent a lifejacket on Naama bay beach.

It is definately worth a trip, i went twice amongst my other ventures that i did in the two weeks i was there. It was breathtaking.

What a view !

If you want to maximize the glass bottom boat trip experience, take the last boat of day. The sun will go down when you start the slow trip back to beach. You have plenty of time to enjoy the unforgottable views, Na'ama Bay is really beautiful.

Waiting for embarkation

A nice break is to make an excursion with the glass bottom boat. All hotels can make this arrangement and prices are much alike everywhere.
You have to embark at the beach of the old port in Sharm.
With coral reef and colourful fish life, the world under water is unbelievable. You don't have to be a diver to enjoy this, a glass bottom boat will give you a very good glimpse of the
life under water.
The boat was supposed to leave at 10 o'clock in the morning, but we had to wait until noon before we could embark ( don't get nervous, in Egypt everything is possible)

The resorts of the Red Sea are famous for their spectacular corals, fish, and underwater life. Therefore the area is incredibly attractive to snorkellers and divers.

However, for those of us who neither snorkel nor dive, the solution lies in the glass bottomed boat trip.

Many of the superior hotels have their own boats, and all hotels will arrange trips for you in some boat. It's a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours, or you can organise an all day trip including lunch if you wish. There are day and half day boat trips to the Ras Mohammad National Park.

Most of the boats will anchor at some point in the trip and allow those who wish to swim off the side of the boat.

You can choose to sit up on top of the boat enjoying the sunshine and the sea spray, or lower down watching the fish and the corals through the glass bottom of the boat. It's also a great way to see the coastline.

Very well worthwhile taking this trip.

Glass Bottommed Boat

A lot of people may find this a bit tame but i thought it was good value for money and it gives a great flavour of what there is to see underwater. Cost is around E£40 and for this you get an hour trip, with around 10 minutes snorkelling if you fancy it. Be warned that the boat has to anchor in deep water, however, so it's not the greatest snorkelling.

I'd recommend you do this on your first few days in Sharm as it'll encourage you to get snorkelling! We went with Ocean Club who have a nice new boat (see pic). Please tell them Peter says hi!

Glass Bottom Boat Tour

In Sharm el Sheik, they offer numerous glass bottom boat tours, but I think they are truely a waste of money unless you really can't get in the sea to see the reef.

The boats do not go anywhere special, they all just meander along the coast where all the hotels are. I saw a lot more just jumping in the sea next to the hotel and it was a lot more interesting.

This tour is a bit of a tourist trap. You spend about 30 min looking through the glass bottom and then they move you to the top of the deck as they float for a while and sell you drinks.
