I enjoyed the visit to the "old market" though clearly understanding that "old" means not so new as the rest. The ambiance gets closer to what we should expect in that area of the world, and commerce more diverse. The kitsch use of a natural hill deeply transformed helps to enhance that ambiance, and the animation was interesting.
Go to old town Sharm and get your bargains. You'll find most things here alot cheaper than in naama bay and taste the locals side of Sharm. You can get a blue cab from naama bay for about 3-4 quid. Make sure you agree fare before you get in cab, and make sure you agree that it's the price for the car full, not per person as the cab drivers can be funny and try to pull a fast one on you. When in old town you'll be in the market area, and the locals can be a bit more pushy than in naama bay, but are ok and don't overstep the mark. Get in the spirit of the local side of life and haggle to get a good bargain. I'd alwys say that you should pay abput half to 2 thirds the starting price. If you don't get it at that price remember, there are plenty more shops and stools to go into. Plus when you walk away and they think no sail, they'll probably chase you and let you have it at your asking price anyway. Fantastic cultural day out.
Have a look around here, you can get a taxi here easily for very about 10 LE. Its nothing like Naama Bay so be warned , but its definately worth a go.Its where all the workers lie and a more "traditional "side of Egypt. There are lots and lots of bazaars and restaurants here, and some great street vendors selling filafel mmmm. Here you will find excellent value ( not luxury) restaurants that serve an abundance of food at just a few LE.
This is an old caravan passage, its more than 2000 years old, and some of the buildings are about 1000 yers old, it is well worth a visit, it is a bit cheaper here, but take care! the locals are a bit more rough here.
On the pic You can se the shop for animals - to eat - it is evening and the pic is not what it should be, but....
They kill the animals on the street and the blood floats in the gutter -Uurrkk!
we had to go to old sharm harbour, because they was a concert in namma bay so the roads were closd, its very big is old sharm habour , its very busy with tanks and dive gear back and forth.
Take a look at town Sharm El Sheikh - it's different that tourist area, real country with the real life.
Don't go there alone or at nigth, and nice to have couple men in company
