St. Catherine's Monastery, Sharm El Sheikh
Venerated by Christians, Muslims and Jews as the site where God gave his Ten Commandments, Mount Sinai (Mount Moses) overlooking the valley where Moses is said to have heard the Lord speaking from a burning bush. The bush is now enshrined in Saint Catherine's Monastery, nestling in a valley at the feet of the Mount, surrounded by high walls and lush gardens. Despite of an apparent isolation, St. Catherine can be rich quite easy even from Cairo, Nuweiba, Dahab or another part. Good to know is that is more cheap to take a bus to Suez (6.00 in the morning) and from there make your way to Cairo. Accommodations are available in the St. Catherine village or at monastery. If you want to sleep over night on the summit of Mt. Sinai, you can drop your luggage at the monastery for 3 pounds.
From Sharm el Sheikh there is like 2 hours drive to the monastery. You can see the desert and hills on the way and it is fantastic. Check travellogue for more pics of desert and monastery.
