  • Getting around from the North of Narma Bay (Sonestra Beach/Club) end taxi to Narm is EŁ15 and to Sharm Old Town EŁ20, although intial price is higher. However, this "may" increase in high season. Alternative is the licensed MInibus (which although advised not licensed to carry foreigners) had no problem in travelling in. Maximum capacity 12. These can be "hailed" down on street with flat fare of EŁ1 per person. if you do not mind travelling with strangers value for money.

  • Taxis in sharm are a wonder, you know like "how the hell did we get out alive LOL" you have to barter the price and if you find them a bit hard to barter then as long as you know the area your in and the area you want to go to then you should be ok, just look at the windscreen and on there you will see a disc a bit like uk road tax disc, on there are displayed area to area and the price you should pay, although they will always try to get more out of you ,just tap the windscreen and point to the price structure and you should be ok

    Taxi in Sharm

  • The best way to get around is definately by taxi. They are very cheap, but you MUST haggle. The drivers expect it. Make sure that you agree a price BEFORE you get in the taxi, a price you are happy with.

The journey might be a bit hair raising, and I am not 100% certain that many of the taxis would pass an MOT - but treat it as an experience! (I don't think my husband blinked on any of our journeys in a taxi whilst we were there!).

  • There did not seem to be to much in the way of public transport in Sharm, most of the hotels and resorts run their own shuttle buses, some are free, ours was.
There are hundreds of taxis and you will find them pulling alongside you and sounding their horns every two minutes ploying for trade, the rule is that you should find out from your reps or hotel staff the going rates first, always agree a price with the taxi driver before getting into the cab, make sure you have the right change and just give them the agreed price and no more, if they try and ask for more than agreed when you vacate the cab just say no and walk on. Most taxi fares only work out at a couple of English pounds.

    Egypt Air

  • I normally transit Cairo on my way to Sharm el Sheikh and pick up Egypt Air in Cairo. Departing from the domestic terminal in Cairo, Egypt Air offers flights starting around 6am through midnight to/from Sharm International Airport. The time of the flights varies each day but there are flights every day to/from Cairo.

The cost is approximately 100-120 Euros for a round-trip flight. Flights can be booked online through the Eygpt Air website or through a travel agent.

The several times I have flown with Egypt Air I've always been impressed with the quality of the airplanes...so don't be scared off by the simplicity and age of the domestic terminal! Most of the planes were new if not brand-new Boeing's. There was always a small snack and boxed juice drink served along with tea/coffee even though the flight is only one hour.

Inflight entertainment includes a monthly magazine called Horus and a video on the reefs in Sharm el Sheikh.

  • In addition to scheduled flights to Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor and Alexandria, Sharm's airport is served by frequent charter flights to Italy, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, among other destinations.

  • This ferry is definitly the fastest way to get to Hurghada. The only daunting thing was the fact the officials on board took our passports for the journey

get a taxi- cheap and cheerful

  • we went everywhere by taxi in sharm, never had a problem. a good driver will wait for you all night if you want, but please be kind and give him a bit extra. we did have the 'poor wife and children at home ' line tried on us but if you treat it with the humour it is ususally meant with its ok. agree a price before getting into the car and stick to the price, if the driver was gooddo tip him, they remember this and appreciate it, taxis are so cheap it doesn't hurt to be kind. the drivers can give you some good tips on where to go and what to do, after all they spend their lives taking tourists from one place to the next. a driver may try to give you his fone number, don't worry this isn't some tacky chat up line he just wants to be your personal chauffeur. it is reaasuring to sort of know who you are getting in the car with.
be prepared for a roller-coaster ride though the standards of driving are a little different to ours, the only way i can describe it is London, on a match day, in 40 degree heat, when there is a bus, tube and rail strike - it is mayhem! but the drivers cope with it , there is a lot of good (and bad) natured blowing of horns. if you are too worried SHUT YOUR EYES!
