the best way to get around Sharm without a shadow of a doubt is by local taxi! Just be sure to confirm a price BEFORE you get in! you may have to haggle ( hehe! ok ok you WILL have to haggle!) If you're not sure how much a journey should cost, ask someone in your hotel, they know the rough amount you should be looking for. The taxi drivers are very friendly, although let me warn you that I never travelled in one taxi that would have passed a UK MOT! and I never met a driver that had ever taken a test of any kind! But they are the best, maybe even the only way to get around!

I think that the best way to see Sinai is by taxi, ask for the price before the ride and compare the price against what You should pay if You go by Your travelagency.
Going by local bus is cheaper but You have to deal with noicy locals and if You have a woman beside it could be unpleasant.
It is free to call Refad when You want a cab.

To/From... Charters from Germany seem plentiful. From the US? Who knows... smile... I just know I never HEARD of Sharm until I was in Berlin ready to find a cheap cool place to visit. I think there are many scheduled flights from DE as well, but you will have to check!!!

The best way to get to Sharm is to go by plane. There are plenty of flights directly from Western European airports, especially Italy and Germany. Also flights from Russia, Ukraine and other Eastern European places.
The other alternative is a flight to Cairo and then a domestic flight with Egypt Air to Sharm (50 minutes).
The bus trip from Cairo to Sharm takes about 7 hours and is not interesting.

taxis are the best mode of transportation. Hotels offer bus services, but if you want to be independent from their schedules you will need a taxi. The usual taxis are very old Peugeot 504 station wagons. Sometimes there are also taxis without a clear taxi sign. You always must make some bargaining about the price. Always fix the price in advance and ask at your hotel reception, what the actual rate is. Usually the driver forst ask double of the real price.

If you need to get from the hotel to the town it is best to take the local bus which will cost you about $2.
If you can not wait you can take a taxi but be warned that the nicer your hotel is the more you are going to pay. Set the price before you get in the taxi.
