Souvenirs on the mountain

by Diana75

As in almost all touristy places in Egypt, also on the mountain are a lot of Bedouins selling small souvenirs, most of them consisting in rocks, stone or alabaster eggs or statues. As soon as the sun is up they open their stands hoping that the tourists will be tempted to buy something.

St. Catherine Village souvenir shops

by Diana75

In the center of the small village of St. Catherine there are a couple of souvenirs shops from where you can buy traditional Bedouin products, but also papyruses (I'm not quite sure that are original) or semiprecious stones jewels. Probably due to the lack of numerous tourists in the area, the prices are likely to be higher than in other places.

Bedouin souvenirs in Uyûn Mûsa

by Diana75

It was 7am when we arrived in Uyûn Mûsa on our way to St. Catherine. On the left side there were some covered stalls and in a couple of minutes a Bedouin girl came and showed us some bracelets and necklaces the Bedouins had for sale. We promised them to stop again the next day in the way back to Cairo to buy something and so we did. They asked around USD 1-/piece for the hand made jewelry and wood statues.

Shopping by the road

by MalenaN

On the way from Taba to St Chatherine’s Monastery we stopped by the road to have tea. We passed a small shop where a minibus had stopped for tea, but the taxi driver said he preferred to stop in a village (just a few houses) where they were very poor. We had our tea and the woman serving the tea showed the bracelets and necklaces she had for sale. I liked one necklace and it was 10 pounds. I did not want to negotiate about the price, but only had a 5 pound note and a 50 pound note. The woman didn’t have change so in the end I paid 5 pounds and the taxi driver 5 pounds. This kind of jewellery can be bought in the shops in Dahab as well.

local vendor: Shopping in mountain high?

by Sambawalk

If you find bored while you are waiting for the sunrise, there are vendors at the Mt Sinai summit for you to kill him. Prices? depends on your bargainning skills and desire. Local stuff
