At the time of our trip to Taba Heights, we were flown in through Israel to Ovda airport for a border crossing.
What they don't tell you is that Ovda is a Military Airport. You are then transferrred by bus to the border where you have to pay to buy a Visa and then walk across the border, about 300 yards carrying your luggage, they don,t allow vehicles to cross. This is a real timewasting ball ache.
I had intended to go for a day trip back to Elat which was only 10 miles from Taba, but the border crossing was such a performance that I did not bother.
On the return journey the security checks by the Israelis were totally over the top. What a miserable load of humourless bastards they are. Everyone on the flight was unanimously agreed that they had enjoyed the holiday to Taba but would NEVER return by this route.
Was this some cunning plot to ruin the Egyptians efforts to build a competing resort I wonder. I mean I can understand security at this level if we all had flowing white beards and Kaftans, but a coach load of Brit's!!!
Thankfully, I understand that there is now an Egyptian airport at Taba now which should overcome this problem. But if you are offered a trip through Ovda, forget it. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

 Taba Border Crossing by NYC2TLV
There is a US $15.00 fee to cross the Israeli border, and a US $26.00 fee to cross on the Egyptian side unless you are going to the Hilton Taba or the casino. Those are free because they sit on the Israeli/Egyptian border. Leave a Comment

Here is a great place to snorkle and to scuba dive in the red sea and it`s awsome coral reef.
Getting into the sea can be a problem when snorkling, without standing on the coral but local staff of each resort have designated areas to get into the sea without damaging the coral these are clearly marked.

It just wouldn`t be the same going to Egypt without riding a Camel you can do this along the beach at Taba Heights at the 3 Corners beach club there are 3 Camels all together but the best one too ride is nearest to the Sofitel hotel and has the best owner who is a real funny man, who would probably let you ride for nothing, we gave him about US$8 though.

At Taba Heights Water World they offer a glass bottom boat ride, this last for about an hour and is quite well priced at 10GBP. They take you over the Coral reef and you get to see some real colourful fish including Clown fish(Nemo), we also got to see a very big and also dangerous Mooray Eel. Great fun.

Also avilable from Taba Heights, with a number of tour companies running an excursion to Cairo it`s not very close by though an eight hour coach ride each way but you have the option of staying over night and making it a two day tour which is obvouisly more exspensive as you spend a night in another hotel in Cairo, also a new tour is now avilable in which you can fly to Cairo from Taba making the travel time alot shorter.
