This restaurant was recommended by regular British visitors to Luxor and was a great recommendation! The restaurant was opened by a British lady, but serves Egyptian, as well as British food. This food was such good value for money, eg soup was 0.50GBP and a main course, such as half a duck with apple sauce, roast potatoes and vegetables was only 2.80 GBP! Our whole bill for two courses each and four cokes came to less than 8 GBP. The Tutankhanmun Restaurant is at the West Bank of Luxor. Turn left when you landed on the ferry dock. It is about 2 minutes walk. The restaurant is on the roof terrace of a two-storey low-rise. You can have a stunning view of the Luxor Temple, and watching the felucca glided along the Nile. The food is basically Egyptian. The chicken curry is a must try - not too spicy with a tint of sweentness because of the frunits added into it. The most fabulous thing is that there are three side dishes (let alone the bread and salad), potates, spinach and something of a mixed vegetable. Rosemary chicken is also highly recommended. We had just ordered two main courses and the food was so good that we finished them all and ended up with a big big stomach. The mint tea was also excellent. The whole meal costed only EP60! What a bargain! The Chef, Mammould, had served a French expedition team and also worked for several 5-star French hotels, such as Isis Hotel and Le Meridien. Mammould speaks fluent French and English, and is a very friendly man. He is renovating the second floor to turn it into a B&B. He showed us around, where the kitchen would be, how the bathroom looked like. Friendly man!
The chicken curry is my favourite. Slightly different from those Indian curry I used to have, Mammould's curry has a sweet flavour, with some shredded coconut on the top. The fresh fruit adds a delightful taste in the curry. Excellent to go with the flavoured rice. ~ La Mammas Restaurant ~ by Heavens-Mirror This beautiful restaurant is located at the Sheraton Luxor Resort hotel. Everyone is free to use the restaurants. We stayed at Le Meriden Luxor but you are allowed to eat out in the other hotels if you wish. The restaurant is located next to a pond which has beautiful swans and ducks in the pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our food came very quickly.
I had minestrone soup for starters, spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread, and ice cream for dessert. We also had a couple of beers. Three of us ate for less than 300 Egyptian Pounds. That included drinks, starters, main course and desserts and all with a friendly and quick waiter service. It was a bargain. I highly recommend coming to La Mamma's at least once during your stay in Luxor. We found this restaurant after reading a review on this site. I only wish we'd gone on our 1st day in Luxor. We wouldn't have gone anywhere else!! Fabulous food- Mostly freshly made and well cooked English and Egyptian food with one special Egyptian night (Tuesday I think) and roast dinners on Sunday. They also have freshly made pies, fish dishes, steaks, omelettes, curries and soups (lentil and potato soup was amazing!!)Run by an English woman and her Egyptian husband who are both absolutely lovely and extremely accomodating. We ate 2 evening meals and a lunch here and were never disappointed. If you are staying in Luxor you must eat here!
Impossible to say one favourite. I had fabulous lentil and potato soup for about 10Le (about £1) and a delicious piece of sea bass with vegetables and chips. Onion rings were lovely. My friend had the fillet steak and raved about it being the most succulent she had ever tasted. We were really upset to miss the Egyptian night as we love Egyptian food and Yasser's mum does all the cooking for that night (so really authentic). McDonalds View by CandS We were told about the view from the McDonalds in Luxor by a few different people/friends before our trip to Egypt so we thought that we would go if we got the chance... McDonalds in Luxor probably has the best view I have ever seen from a McDonalds restaurant anywhere in the world... We went up to the 3rd floor to eat our food and had an amazing view over the city of Luxor, the Luxor Temple and in the background we could see the Valley of the Kings... El Kababgy by Angelal El Kababgy is a fairly new cafe/restaurant on the bank of the river nile on Luxors East Bank. It is directly opposite the Winter Palace so very easy to find. I believe it is owned by the same family that own the Tutotel and the Metropolitan Cafe/Bakery further down the river. This restaurant is excellent, it is spotlessly clean both in the restaurant and the kitchens which you can see from outside. You can choose to either sit outside by the Nile or inside the restaurant itself which is decorated nicely and has a nice modern feel to it. The menu is slightly more adventerous that many of the other small restaurants in Luxor with the added bonus of having a Nile view. There is a grilled section where you can choose from Grilled Chicken, Mixed Grill, Lamb Cutlets, Pigeon, livers and much more. There is a nice selection of soups, burgers and sandwiches as well as pastas and pizzas. The also have a wide selection of traditional Tagines as well as lots of vegetarian dishes I had the Duck with Orange sauce with Oriental rice and I can only describe it as totally delicious. Adel had the Mixed Grill and this looked delicious also. The chef cooks the koftas on a BBQ outside so the smell drifts across which really gets your appetite going. The staff are nice and friendly too. This is also a great place for a coffee and to enjoy the view if you don't fancy eating. One good sign is that the toilets are probably one of the cleanest in Luxor and a man checks them frequently to ensure they are clean. Only downside is that the toilet door has a huge mirror - on the inside which is just a bit off putting to say the least. We visited El Kababgy for a special lunch but it would be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like in the evening. The music they play there is pretty good also, they alternate between Egyptian/Arab music and Western music. Overall, highly recommended!!!

View towards Luxor from our table by Brian&Sally Just north from the ferry terminal on the West Bank is the Tut Ankh Amen rooftop restaurant - although the spelling will vary depending on which sign you look at. It might not look much from the outside, but it gave us our best meals in Luxor. Run by a chef who apparently used to work at the Winter Palace in Luxor, the food was truly a revelation. The menu appears fairly limited, but don't let that stop you. A wide variety of vegetable dishes - which varies from day to day - will be brought out with your meal for everyone to share. And it was the vegetable dishes that were the star of the show. The meat was good, but the veggies were just yum! Make sure you're hungry when you arrive; dish quantities are NOT small, plus there's the usual bowl of bread. Being a rooftop restaurant, the view across the Nile to the Luxor Temple is wonderful, particularly as the sun goes down. And the cooling breeze is good too. You can also watch the procession of cruise boats depart for their trips.
They're all good! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: Get off the ferry on the West Bank, turn left along the river, dodge the camel and motorboat touts and it's just on the other side of the road that heads west out of town.

Africa's relaxed setting by Tijavi Located on the West Bank, just off the ferry landing (a few meters to your right), this is a favorite of foreign archeologists and tourists. Although the menu is simple, the restaurant's outdoor setting on a lush flower garden makes it very atmospheric. It's a great place to stop by for lunch after some serious sightseeing on the West Bank. There is a reproduction of an ancient water wheel - a fascinating contraption while enjoying your meal. Food is served on local earthenware - very authentic. Their Egyptian menu of baked chicken is highly recommended. It is a medley of rice and vegetable side dishes and baked chicken, of course. Simple, but tasty and filling. The vegetable side dish of tomatoes, zucchini and other local varieties is very refreshing, especially on a hot day. Staff is friendly and attentive. I commented on how good the vegetable side dish was, and I was offered a refill - not once but twice. If there is one thing that sums up the whole place, it would be Ahmed's (one of the waiters) reassuring spiel - "Relax, you're in Egypt." If I were to rephrase him, it should have been, "Relax, you're in Africa."

by clairegeordio This is an excellent restaurant! It is next to the Meridien hotel. We had soup for starters, a main course each and rice each, which came to less than 10 GBP! There was also a little show put on of a waiter serving burning Irish coffee, so the lights dim while he does his party trick! Leave a Comment
