"Buffet" for a dinner and supper as a rule is offered to visitors in hotels. First of all amazes an abundance of a various batch, various pies, cakes, creams, mousses and other delicious dishes. Puff pies with almonds, vermicelli with honey and nuts, sweet rice with pistachioes...
However it is necessary to remember, that drinks are paid. Fresh juice 14LE ($3), beer 20LE ($4), tea 7LE ($1,5).
In Hurghada, I located a local restaurant with reasonable price. The usual soup, salad, main course and drink dinner cost about 20 EGP per person. (May 2006). The quality of food was good. Note service tax 12%. Look at the menu pic and see if you find it reasonable.
Restaurant in Hurghada is not cheap (according to backpacker's standard). Anyway, I had a decent meal at night with grill fish, salad and soup. Each person costs about 25 EGP (May 2006).
I think the food is alright. Since the business is quiet in Hurghada at the time I was here, the food may not be so fresh due to low turnover. So better to take some simple dishes and avoid meat dishes which may be sitting in the fridge (if they have one) for a long period.
You can get supermarket food at local prices (without being overcahaged by the cunning and greedy Egyptians). All prices are scanned by bar code at the cashier, soprices are right and fair. A must visit in Egyptians. A can of coke is 1.75EGP, A bottle of 1.5 Litre water 1.75 EGP.
This bakery is located near the souq and just down the street from the chinese restaurant. The cake is tasty generally. Each piece costs 3 EGP. I requested tea and the owner got it from next door for 3 EGP. Again, this shows the differential pricing system I keep mentioning, which I hate about Egypt. Local people pays 50p (0.5 EGP) whist tourist like you pays 3 EGp, or even 5 EGP. You will be the judge to decide whether it is the tourist's responsible to rescue the encomy of Egypt.
See more pics for the shop.
I like this place cause it has many egyptian dishes that i miss when i travel but when i am there i feel a bit home. You will also find some international dishes such as pasta and steaks.
Favorite Dish: I like the molokhia
At our hotel-restaurant the chefs of the kitchen always prepared something special for the guests.
Instead of woodcarving they did foodcarving.
It was nice to see what they did with a pumpkin? real art.
And it was always a surprise what to find in the restaurant.
This restaurant doesn't look anything special, but is a hive of activity.
You choose your [live] fish downstairs, and then sit upstairs to eat it.
It is best if you go in a crowd and order different dishes.
Favorite Dish: I don't really care for fish that I don't know, but the rest of our party ate kilos of fish with obvious enjoyment, while I daintily ate my grilled fish, which ,by the way, was good.
Egyptian-Lebanese restaurant, à la carte, open for lunch and dinner.
Smoking and no smoking section.
From outside the restaurant looks like a beouin tent.
There's also a separate section where you can drink mint tea and smoke the shisha pipe (for free).
Favorite Dish: Tabbouleh, houmous, falafel and lots of dishes on the menu that I had never heard of. Lots of fish dishes, a few preparations with lamb.
This à la carte restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.
Smoking and no smoking section.
You can either eat inside or outside on the terrace. The time we were there (March) there were no umbrella's and it could get very hot on the terrace at lunch time!
Favorite Dish: Lunch: various (good) pizzas, pasta dishes, salads, lunch menu with fish / meat / poultry and some lovely desserts!!
Dinner: traditional Italian style ... antipasti from the saladbar (funghi ripieni, prosciutto crudo, melanzano, zucchini, peperoni, pomodori, carcifione, ...), primo piatto (zuppa, brodo, gnocchi, risotto, pasta, ...), secundo piatto (meat/poultry/fish) and dolci ...
Always a large selection of bread, like foccacia with olives, cheese, sundried tomatoes or bacon (yummie!), ciabatta, pane aioli, ...
Main restaurant at the Sunrise Select Garden Beach resort.
Buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With show cooking for all meals.
Various themed evening buffets.
Wonderful food, good wines!
Favorite Dish: Inside and outside eating.
Al Jocker is located very near to the downtown area. It is a 2 floor restaurant on the corner of 3 streets with a big balcony on the top floor and thats where i usually sit to eat inorder to watch the action happening in the street.
It is not expensive, simple, they have so many dishes
Favorite Dish: I liked the clams, rice with shrimps, grilled calamari and sea food soup
Excellent sea food at extremely good prices (fish - approx. 4.5 Euro per piece; calamari - 3 euro per plate, lobster - 35-40 euro/kilo). The staff is very friendly and speaks different languages. The restorant has e huge view over the main Sekkala street.
A downside for some might be the fact that they don't serve alchocolic beverages.
Favorite Dish: The fish was amazing !!!!
Really excellent. Ask for Hamdy. He is the cooker. One of the best. He was my "friend of the day" every dinner.
"Eating hours" are from 6.30PM to 2.00AM in two restaurants, Yacht ad Marina Bar, Dolphin Bar...
Favorite Dish: You always have 20 different kinds of salad, cookies, meat... For every lunch and dinner there was a soup. Seven days, fourteen meals and never same soup.
Excellent Food! Recommended to us from the local guys at reception. It's off of Sakkala Square- just tell your driver- they know where it is!
REally awesome food and a lot of expat workers go there too from the diving schools. You can eat for 2 and be totally stuffed for 10 euros. The arabic rice is excellent and be sure to order the molookhia and grape leaves and stuffed chicken, and soup!:)
This is where locals eat!
Favorite Dish: All of them!
