It' a one-day excursion advised by every tour operator. it's a long journey from Mars'Alam, in fact such a place is near Sudan. The most disappointhing this was there were very few camels and people. The tour there consist in a visit where camels stayed in quaranteen...(we couldn't get in), then a place where contracts are signed (by hands shanking) and then, where camels are loaded in lorries to be delivered somewhere else. If you are an animalist, try to avoid this third step. I am not an animalist but I really felt bad to see how these animals were beaten to get into the lorry. Shalaten is itsself nothing special; I remember a lot of rubbish everywhere. Restaurant included offered camel meat, of course.
This excursion, moreover, was bloody expensive (100 $ each person in April 2006)
Fun Alternatives: You have to ask before if the market is daily or weekly. In the first case, do not go. Too little market to justify the journey and the cost.
