    You can find coffee shops all over Egypt. They are the favorite hangout for the men, and upon occasion, you will see women in them as well. They come in all shapes and sized. Nice upscale one's to basic no frills. They are open air places where one can go, smoke the shisha, eat ful medames with pita, veggies, and hardboiled eggs. Served with lime and hotsauce on the side.

  • ALEXNDRIA citizins are a mixture betwene greek .italian,and arabs..alexandria is a very medteranian sea the culture..the buildings..the islamic touch almost doesn't exsit .

    Men Kissing in the streets

  • A man kissing another man on the cheeks in the street is common cause this is the way Egyptian men greet each others. The strange thing is a man kissing a lady hi or goodbye. Some of my foreign friends asked me weather i am a gay and i was completly surprised cause i am not, they told me why do you keep kissing your men friends. Dont fall into this trap. At Least Do This: As a man , expect that if you meet with another man and had a conversation and met again, he might kiss you . so dont panic as this is the way he is expressing frienship and kindness. But dont get used to this habit cause it gets irritating especially when it is hot.

    As i said many times before Alex got incredibly warm and open people. Try it yourself even if you do not spek arabic (got different arabic dialect than in cairo anyway) try to talk to people they are not yet spoiled by large groups of just-goin' to museum-in a bus kind of tourists. If they see you walking on your own they feel more at home and u gotta interact which is perfect with the Alexandrians. Try it!!!!!!!!!!

    EASTER IN ALEX MEANS THAT SUMMER IS HERE... AND WINTER IS DONE (even if it's still kind of cold). I decided on that day to wake up early and go walking down the beach... so that I could get some fresh air. It was 8 am, a magical morning, I call it. The waves were crashing hard on the bricks, birds were flying above the sea, it was indeed a magical morning. I kept on walking and walking, I don't know how many miles I've cut on that day, but all I know that I've cut a long distance.. and didn't feel tired. Egyptians in general celebrate Easter, as it being an ancient festival since the pharoas. The food eaten on that day is smoked fish, and anything related to fish. Maianly Alexandrians on that day go swimming, celebrating the first day of spring, and the end of winter.
