Bustling Market in
Alexandria

On a few occasions during my stay I found myself wondering a local market, not sure of the name, but I am sure there are similar markets throughout Alexandria. They were alive, with local people doing their shopping, men sitting outside cafes smoking their "hubbly bubblies", shop keepers trying to encourage you into to buy their goods. This was really fun and I found some gret bargains here.

Anything from food, to gold and jewellery.

It's a public Souq. It represents a true pic about the status of a considerable number of the Egyptian people, who buy everything for thier life from this market.

Fruits, vegitables, desserts, food , animals and everything.

It's clear that you are going to pay less than any other place.

Whoever named this mall Green Plaza would have meant to capitalize on the mall's ambiance - stores and restaurants arranged around gardens in an outdoor setting. One of the great things to do here is to sit on the many cafés around the mall and see Alexandria's youth go malling and entertain themselves with the loads of entertainment options - bowling alleys, snooker hall, a funfair, and cinemas among others. These are in addition to mall staples of clotheshops and groceries. The place also has Hilton hotel, and a somewhat tacky Roman-inspired convention hall (for wedding receptions, too?). The mall is located in Smouha, a suburb along the Agricultural Road to Cairo. Aside from taxi, you could take the minibus to the mall from Midan Saad Zaghloul in downtown Alexandria. It is also close to the airport in Smouha.

If you need some jumpers or some other sporty stuff you may better bring it from home ... this sport shop did not have any really sporty thing ... LOL

	Stall at Ramleh station: Postcards

I spent a surprising amount on time looking for postcards of Alexandria. It's much in Alex's favour that there are very few shops aimed only at tourists, and such establishments tended to have only generic Pharonic-Wonders-Of-Egypt cards. I'm under strict orders to send my boys a postcard from everywhere I visit, so views of Alex had to be hunted down. I eventually stumbled across a stall at Ramleh station that had a good selection of pictures of Alex landmarkd like the library or the fortress of Quait Bey, all for a bargain 50 piastres each.

The Green Plaza is a relatively new addition to Alexandria, situated 10 minutes from Alexandria International Nozha Airport. It is made up by the Hilton hotel, shops a cinema and numerous outdoor cafes and restaurants. The Green Plaza is always quite a busy place full of young people and families, especially on a thursday night but it has a calm atmosphere. There is not a lot to do there but sit and watch people go by, but it is safe and clean and perhaps a good introduction to people who are a bit wary of busy areas.

A supermarket which sells most of the foods that you would normally find, in your home supermarkets, plus the traditional cheeses, meats and cakes of Egypt. Clothes and shoe shops Pizza, chinese, and donut shops, plus more traditional kebab shops
