Traffic&driving in Alexandria, Alexandria

I do not think you dare drive in Alexandria. Although it is not as worst as Cairo, but still the rules on the road is never followed. I am writing this warning not to offend anyone but at least to give an idea especially to tourist, not to cross the street in Corniche Road where you can find the Stanley Bridge. I was there in the morning at around half past nine and only few cars pass by. But during rush hour, you will have no guts to try jaywalk on this street. The number of cars is approximately ten times the number in the morning. I admire my host, he is an excellent driver, he is from Alexandria. If you are not from this place, do not drive and do not cross the street - use underground.

Everytime we leave a parking lot at all the tourist area, I observed that our tour guide gave some money to the tourism cops who happened `to help` keeping our car safe. Compare to Cairo, Alexandria tourism cops more on occupying the parking area. They will ask for some tips from the tour guide. I believe `the parking tips` will be a mandatory here. There were no parking tickets though so far for the parking service.

Beside the corniche, most of the streets in Alexandria are small. Many traffic lights are not functioning anymore. These lead to traffic all around the city. The cars move slower in the small streets. You may even see some horse carts on the road.:-))

Just be aware while you are crossing the Corniche road not from the tunnel used for this.
if you are crossing the road be aware as the cars are running in a super fast speed as its considered to be a high way inside the city.

many accidents happened everyday because of this so be aware.

Watch how the locals cross the street and do what they do!

Don't forget a good assurance if you drive a car !
Better to take a bus or a taxi to visit the city.

be careful to all drivers, and forget about rules! everybody do whatever the want. both cars and pedestrians. it's a real jungle!
