Step Pyramid of Zoser Things to Do

  • Don't do the same ...

In the House of South you can see two graffities which were left there by visitors about 1500 years after Zoser's funerary and they were wrote with hierogliphs.Unfortunately I've seen some other graffities as well which were left just days before I was there and those did not impress me at all ...

  • Feel the past

The Step Pyramid of Zoser was the first pyramid that was built and because of that is not a real pyramid but it is having it's typical stepps! The first real pyramid (no stepps) is the Bent Pyramid from Dashour ... and can be seen from Saqqara!

  • False entrance

In order to get a peaceful rest and to safeguard belongings, all pyramids have their false entrances to confuse and discourage Lara Croft... err, I mean tomb raiders...This false entrance descend roughly 250 meter, it effectively protect the Zoser Step Pyramid for more than 4000 years until recent excavation by archeologists. This was made possible...

Step Pyramid of Zoser Transportation

  • Camel, donkey, taxi, bus

Saqqara site is quite big and walking arround is really taking your time so you better have some sort of transpor arranged. T%he best is the taxi you came with or the tourist bus of your travel company ... if you forgot that than you'll have to hire a camell .... this is not the best solution as you can end up paying more than for the taxi! How can...

  • Taxi

Getting to Saqqara is by far the easiest by taxi! The key word again is BARGAIN and is even better if you agree the price for the whole day because you'll need something to get arround in Saqqara as well!

    Pyramid climbing

by kiasu Written Nov 17, 2004

As the Zoser Step Pyramid was built more than 4000 years ago, there's no guarantee that its rocks will give way some day...

Moreover, some of the nearby pyramids, temples and other monuments were destroyed or damaged a few years ago... so the Step Pyramid might be the next....

Lastly, tourist polices will definitely chase you away for doing that...

    Locals wandering arround ...

    by Levente_D Written Mar 16, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

At the step pyramids as well, just like everywhere else, there are some local guys wandering arround in traditional cloth with a camel or a donkey or just without any animal and they invite you to make picture of them and afterwards they expect a tip! Even if you don't want to make the pic together with them they still insist ...

Step Pyramid of Zoser What to Pack

  • Nothing arround ...

Leave as much of your stuf in your hotel as much you can as you don't want to drag it arround the sand the hole day. You should have some good shades and a cap against the sun! Take what you need as there are no stores! Some guys do sell some films and stuff but I didn't even dare to ask for prices ... I guess they try to do their best...

  • Things to bring

Preferably something small and light as you are going to walk around. Although not a necessity, a hat would help in repelling heat. Lip balm would be nice. Water, water, weter.

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

Step Pyramid of Zoser Off The Beaten Path

  • Step Pyramids

If you've made it to Giza, then just go a bit further by car/bus to Zoser. Once again, if you've made it that far, dont stop now. Surrounded by a sea of sand, the step pyramids might blend with the plethora of other ruins, but they are the ancestoral beginning.

  • Mastaba of Ti

I mentined that there were tourist busses at Zoser's pyramid and also at the Pyramid of Teti but almost nobody at Mastaba of Ti!To get there you must go towards the Serapeum (closed for visitors since a couple of years) and go towards the Philosophers' Circle ... from there you'll allready see the Mastaba of Ti! Is one of the most interesting...
