Armed Forces hotel and Resort/Club: That big banquet feel
Sprawling hall that gives a lavish, banquet feel. Lacks an English menu, but you could always ask the waiter to translate on the spot. Downside is that the portions are relatively small compared to other places in Egypt, so you might want to order more courses. To enter the Armed Forces Resort compounds (which include a bowling center that closes close to midnight, a spa and sauna complex and a long park by the Nile, among many other facilities--all available at an acceptable price), you must pay the entrace fee (about LE6 when we went). Gettinga taxi here might be a good idea for those too lazy to walk across the Nile, though Minya is in general a happy place to walk about in. Serves, according to my British friends, some of the best fries they've tried in Egypt. I really enjyoed their kebab; but then again, all 6 of us seemed to enjoy whatever we ordered here.
