Favorite thing: One of my favorite sections of Cairo is Zamalek, an island in the Nile that basically lies between modern downtown Cairo and Giza. It is an upscale, garden area with a number of attractions as well as many embassies, schools popular hotels.
Zamalek,is an inner city upper class neighborhood, the Bermuda Triangle of the city's pleasure-seekers - a place where one can become blissfully lost wandering between the restaurants, bars and pubs.
Fondest memory: I took this picture from the airplane! though it was a little foggy but still you can see the zamalek island!

Favorite thing: The best time to visit Cairo is winter: then it's about 20-23 C degrees. Whenever you go - take a walk in the streets of Cairo and feel the athmosphere. Take a look at people's clothes and behavior, especially during the Ramadan. This is a religious holiday (end December) when muslisms keep the fast and at 5 p.m. sharp they all start eating, even the guards in front of the hotel who sit down on the pavement and have their dinner. Don't miss to see Cairo by night. Go up to the Cairo tower and see the lights alongside the Nile river.
Over 180 meters high, the tower is the most outstanding attraction of modern Cairo. The first of the top two storeys has a rotating restaurant and cafeteria. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Cairo from the observation platform.
Fondest memory: No one is in a hurry to do anything or go anywhere. Even if you're getting nervious since everything is so slow people keep telling you 'Don't worry, things will be OK, it will take a minute'. Well, have in mind that 1 Egyptian minute=2 European hours

Favorite thing: With most hotels in the bositerous western part of town, a quieter location is the island of Zamelek. Across the Nile to the west is Agouza, a more residential area. Sunrise (don't know what I was doing up quite so early!) looking westwards from Zamelek.
Fondest memory: Quite a relief from the noise of the city!
