If you're lucky enough to avoid all the tourist package tours and take your time walking around in this big city its a good idea to stay close to the Nile . You just have to get used to the crazy traffic first , believe me you will get used to it... so walk across El tahrir bridge and watch the cruise boats and other river traffic passing by or watch the locals fishing. They caught some very small but I think eatable fish... and as always its easy to get in contact with the local people.

You definitlly shouldn't and can't miss bridges on the Nile in Cairo. This is the University bridge. I have been told that in the long and hot summer days, people in Cairo try to cool a bit in the evening on the Nile river. So, Ashraf took us there to see that. I was amazed to see how many people just park their cars on the bridge and do nothing else but chill. I instantly remembered bridges in Belgrade and what a traffic jam this sort of popular relaxation would cause. But not there...
From the bridge you get to see the Nile, of course, fancy boat-restaurants, bright lights of Cairo's best hotels and all of a sudden, you forget The City of Dead and the powerty you get to see in the day light. It is beautiful and most certainly a must see activity.

Many times I have walked along this bridge side walk,,It connects you from the Opera house to the Samiramis hotel&Hilnan Shepard hotel.
If you pass though this bridge by night you will see many couples dreaming together and staring at the Nile under the moonlight.
And if you`re lucky and pass on a Thursday night(when most weddings are held)you will find a new wed couples having their pictures taken.
you can see the famous lion statues decorating the old "Qasr El nil" bridge.

This bridge is the longest and the highest I have ever seen,(named after the battle between Egypt and Isreal in 1973).
It links Cairo to the 6th of October city, about 15 km and growing.
To me just passing over this bridge brings so much memories, starting from the time I arrive to Cairo(I have to cross ths bridge on my way to my apartment)til the time I leave Cairo. It can be very busy infact 50% of Cairo`s traffic gets on the 6th of October bridge(AL-Ahram weekly news paper).
many developments has been made on this bridge since it was built.
