restaurant in Zamalek area.
We had a serie of various Egyptian dishes such as chiken liver, and the Sakkara beer, the food was really delicious and so the atmosphear.
If you want you can also smoke shisha.
The name outside is Charmerie
Favorite Dish:
Best dish is definitely the Molokhiyyah a delicious vegetable that can be eaten with rice.
Pronounced Aboul Seed........
This restaurant is located off the 26th of july street,it feels that you are walking through a time machine when you enter this place,it takes you back in history at the time of the pashas,it`s very cosy.
It also has a bar serving Alcohol beverages.
It opens for lunch and dinner.
Kids are not allowed after 7 p.m.
Serves the Shisha(water pipe/hooka)
To me,,going to Cairo and not dining here,is like going to Egypt and not seeing the Pyramids ;-)*
Favorite Dish:
This restuarant is famous for it`s (Molokheyyah) dish,,it`s a green leaf vegetable cooked with lots of garlic and onions(the combination of onion and garlic is called ta`liyyah )and chicken stock, served with white rice.
This is a very famous dish in Egypt,,it also can be cooked with meat stock or even rabbits in some other places.
Minimum charge is 50 Egyptian pounds per person(which is less than 10 $).
Personally I like the one located in Zamalek area the best
There are other branches of Abu el sid,in Mohandiseen dist.
Maadi, and in City stars shopping mall.

Travelers on VT said pretty much everything there is to say about Abu El Sid.
We went there twice during our stay, both times with Egyptian friends - which is probably the best recommendation: when locals take you somewhere, it's bound to be a wonderful experience. However I noticed locals don't particularly fancy it.. maybe because it's the same food you can have at home.
A noisy restaurant with great food and wonderful setting.
Favorite Dish:
Circasian chicken in walnut sauce - absolutely delicious
I couldn't eat the famous stuffed pigeons.... :(
An ottoman-style café-restaurant that serves classic Egyptian dishes - its melokheya ( a green vegetable dish) with chicken and rice is famous. Stuffed pigeon is an Abou El Sidís special.
Interior design include wooden Mashrabiyya window shutters, daring patterned floor tiles, graphic collages and other artwork at the wall, copper lamps and large very low baroque tables.
Reservation highly recommended

Abu El-Sid was one of my favourite restaurants in Egypt! certainly one of the best in Cairo. Slightly expensive by Egyptian standards, but well worth the price.
Charming "Oriental" atmosphere and music with a nostalgic feel. Definitly a cool restaurant - not very touristy, but a nice mix of locals, savy travellers and Arabic visitors from Jordan and other neighboring countries..
The restaurant can get rather busy so its a good idea to phone ahead or have your hotel concierge book you a table.. Otherwise you may have a wait at the bar. But not to worry...alcohol is served and the Stella beer is excellent!
Favorite Dish:
I really enjoyed the mezze! The houmos, spicy sausages, fuul, were all very tasty! I tried the Koshari (a local Egyptian favourite) but did not care too much for the taste.. Apart from that had a wonderful time!
This is a wonderfully atmospheric place to eat, sit back and enjoy a shisha (wld recommend the Apple flavour). Purists can argue, no doubt rightly, that its not authentic but what a great looking fantasy ! if you don't have much time and want to get a sense of difference this is the place to come. Food is pretty good too :-)
This place is amazing in comining together the taste of the food and the taste of the place that keeps you with nothing but a taste of quality and happiness.
It is kind of dimmed lighting place for more privacy while eating and drinking. It serves local egyptian dishes with a morroccon style. They play good oriental music. They have a small bar as well. They also offer shisha inside the place. Dont miss it.
Dont forget to reserve other wise you might wait sometime on the bar and will get drunk.
Favorite Dish:
Bamia (akra) , Molokheya and Fattah.
