Peking restaurant: Chinese food @ Cairo

by HebaM Updated Sep 5, 2012 105 reviews

It's not the best Chinese food you can get but it's good according to Cairo standards. If you are expecting real Chinese food, Don't! The menu is large and can be seen on the website .The service is fine. However, the portion of food is tiny, some branches serve alcohol but no pork of course. The ambiance of the place is suitable for a romantic dinner. It's overpriced and while the food is acceptable, it lacks the culinary finesse that distinguishes a good restaurant from a corner café.
They have home delivery you can order it from home if you don't feel like dinning in.

Favorite Dish: Spring rolls- spicy chicken fried noodles

  • Peking: MSG

by CairoTour Updated Dec 31, 2006 9 reviews

We had dinner at Peking. The spring rolls were light, fresh and crispy. The sauces were tasty. While we were assured no meat was in the tasty broccoli soup, it clearly started with a chicken stock, so I couldn't proceed to enjoy it. The meal, though, was largely MSG, undistinguished vegetables and batter-fried Nile bass (?) nuggets. With one lemonade and bottled water, the bill for 4 came to EP 230 with tax and tip.

Nile Peking Restaurant: floating Chinese restaurant

    Nile Peking Restaurant

The Nile Peking restaurant is situated almost opposite the Nilometer on the Maadi side of the river.
It is a bit shabby compared to some of the floating restaurants, but quite acceptable. For two hours you float up and then down the NIle. At night the lights from other boats, the hotels and the city itself make it a fairyland. Unfortunately my photos did not come out well!
The food was quite good. We had a fixed buffet that consisted of : salad, spring rolls, fish curry, beef strips, chicken , rice, and spicy potatoes. Dessert was ice-cream and fruit salad. A soft drink and bottled water were included.
Decor muted, but as it was approaching a Christmas tree was by stairs leading to upper deck.

Favorite Dish: I'm not a fan of fish, but the curried fish balls with rice was delicious.

    Peking

Peking Chinese Chain of Restaurants, with 10 branches throughout Cairo and in Sharm El Sheikh, and recently in Marina(north coast).

In 1963 the first Peking Restaurant was established by a
group of Chinese families, settled in Cairo from various provinces of China.

The largest(I have visited)is the one in Zamalek area.which offers live music on certain days of the week(check with the restaurants for further information and reservations).

Favorite Dish: Chicken BBQ.chicken Kan Pau,Sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls,,but almost everything in the menu is very good.(even if you closed your eyes and picked any ;-)

  • Peking: Romanctic Lunch or Dinner

The staff at this restaurant are so sweet. Once, I was on a romantic lunch date when my date asked me to dance. The restaurant was pretty much empty, so the staff decided to "butter up" us love birds. A waiter came to our table with complimentary tea and dessert- he said it was a tribute to our dance.
They are so really kind here. (At most places, we might have gotten the opposite reation. People might have been offended by a man and woman having a slow dance together.)

Favorite Dish: For a romantic mood, order appetizers that you and your date can share. The portions of main dishes tend to be small at this restaurant, but the appetizers are a good value for the money.
