In the Khan el Khalili you will find several shops that will sell antiques for good prices. Always bargain that is for sure.
What to buy: I specially like the old Egyptian photo's, like the one here posted. They are genuine Egyptian and something different. I want to collect them. I got this original picture in the Khan el Khalili for only 80 LE, that is about 12 Euro. I saw a replica of it on the Internet sold for $35! I got the original for only 12!
It is a great souvenir that wont take to much space in your luggage.
What to pay: What you want to pay for it! I got it for 12 Euro and it was a bargain.

Khan el Khalili is the largest shopping area in Cairo. There is everything, clothes, souvenirs, papyrus, parfumes, jewelry etc here. One thing a tourist must remember at all times in Egypt is to bargain and this is the right place for it. There is no rule but remember that they always make some profit, but the question is can you make it as least as possible. Start with a quarter or third of the price they tell and bargain. They will be very kind and tell you everything you want to hear just to sell an item. They are especially generous in making compliments to ladies but that is just with one single purpose and women shouldn't fall for their soft words. One more thing, don't compare prices of items that you buy later at other shops or with your friends because you can be dissapointed if you overpaid something.
What to buy: Souvenirs, papyrus, parfumes

Yes, this is the famous Khan El-Khalili! Well, in front of it anyway... We had very little time there. In fact, no matter how much time you have there it's not enough. You can buy so manny things very cheap. Many of them are hand craft, but more are not. Still, they will all insure you that it is true Egyptian hand made and that you are getting something authentic for a very resonable price. The truth is that they have different prices for tourists, and different for Egyptians. No matter how cheap you get what you want, if you were local it would be 30-50% less. So, don't forget to bargain!
What to buy: This is a place where you can find everything: "from a needle to a locomotion", as we have a saying in Serbia... The most popular are perfumes, cotton, silver, papyrus and traditional souvenires like mini Pyramids, Sphinx etc.

There are lot of differents things, be aware of fake stuff. Fake papirus for friends (he,he)... 25 for 5Eur, Egyptian music CD, instruments, jewelry... and much, much more for a nice price...
Jewelry go by weith and are fixed prices in some places... I used my credit card to pay and it is safe, just for jewels.

K el K is the biggest market in Cairo. Here you can find not only antiques and souvenirs, but food, clothes, cafes...
Don't try to find your way out, just get lost and when you are tired, hire a taxi and go back to the hotel

I have difficulty pronouncing the name of this place. Its never good enough for the locals - I lack drama in my pronounciation. What to do , I am Asian (smile)
BUT, I do have the neck for shopping and lots of energy which is the main criteria right next to cash and the patience to bargain. And bargain you need. Many things at Khan, and theres never enough time. From belly dancing suit to t-shirt, to Pharaonic paraphenilia, all you need is cash. And you wont be short of praises too. You're alway beautiful to the eyes of the vendors- thats a method to get you to stop by their shops.
What to buy: Papyrus stuff, wall pictures, book marks, etc - because you cant get this stuff anywhere else.
Perfume, nice bottles but dont pay too much for it. Try some and go shop awhile to see if it last. If it does and you like it, go back and buy it.
What to pay: Bargain and you will know.

The biggest and most attractive bazaar in Cairo, where you can find absolutely everything you need.
People are very friendly and they do everything to make you buy their goods. You can pay in Egyptian Pounds, but also in US dollars or euros.
They all speak at least English, but often other languages, too, including mine! I was really surprised that so many people spoke Serbian, and a very good one! They say it's because Tito and Nasr were great friends :) but I think it's because many Egyptians studied in Yugoslavia, and also, many Yugoslavs come to Egypt...
What to buy: From needles to machines. :)
Absolutely everything is there! The biggest amount of goods are clothes (especially traditional gowns, lovely T-shirts, very beautiful scarfs...), shoes, souvenirs, food...
Don't forget to bargain!!! It's a must!
What to pay: Depends on what you're buying and the quantities, of course. A good bargain would do wonders.
