Cairo Tower

This is apsolutely the best view on Nile and city. Cairo Tower is located on Island Zemalak.
Tower is 187 meter tall, and you will have interesting evevator ride to the top.

Note that you must pay to take photos from the tower! Any way it is worth that money.

Going to Cairo Towers Revolving Restaurant
Zanthe profile photo

My advice? = skip the 'looks nice' but tastes less than mediocre AND is vastly overpriced meal and just go upstairs to the Observatory - you will save yourself a fortune (we ate there 2 weeks ago) and wont be subjected to acidic wine, bad decoration and techno mix music as compiled by the waiter - hardly the ambience we had anticipated.

Vastly overpriced. If you have ever been to a revolving restaurant, you can happily skip this OR go to teh Grand Hyatt - where at least you are guaranteed a good meal!

Burj El Qahira (Cairo Tower)

Cairo Tower (Burj El Qahira or Burj El Gezira), was built between 1956 and 1961, when Gamal Abd El Nasser was president as a symbol of Egypt. The open lattice-work of the tower is intended to create a lotus plant. At 614 feet high, it is said to be 141 feet higher than the Great Pyramid. Cairo Tower is located in the district of Zamalek, on Gezira Island.

The tower has a circular observation deck and a rotating restaurant with a 360 degree view of Cairo. One complete rotation takes an hour and 10 minutes. The cost to take the elevator up to the observation deck is 20 L.E. (3.50 USD)

its nice to be up high in Cairo. It gives one a prospective view of this great city, with it's very modern and very ancient districts. Anyone who has stood atop the Citadel or from the upper floors of some of the taller hotels is aware of the grand views that Cairo offers.

One of the best views is from the Cairo Tower, located on Gezira Island (Zemalak) just north of the Museum of Modern Art (which is also very much worth a visit), which provides a panoramic vision of Cairo. This 187 meter tall tower, in the form of a latticework tube that fans out slightly at the top, is said to imitate a lotus plant, and ranks only fourth among the worlds highest towers. It is made of granite, the same material often used by the ancient Egyptians, and is about 45 meters taller than the Great Pyramid at Giza.

A visit at the Cairo tower is one of the things to do in Cairo though unfortunately it was under renovation when we were there. It is said that from the tower you can have a bird;s eye view of the city. There is also a revolving restaurant if you want to dine.

Cairo Tower at night

The Cairo Tower at 187 metres tall and completed in 1961, is a great place to visit just before dusk so that you can get good day and night view photos. There is a revolving restaurant which offers panoramic views and also a open air viewing deck. Views are great of Cairo and you can see the Giza Pyramids too if it is not too hazy!
Entry costs 65LE per adult (as of Nov. 2008). Kids under 6 are free. Open daily from 9am - 1am (summer) and 9am - midnight (winter).

Tower in Cairo - Best at Night

The Cairo Tower is situated in Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the Nile River of Cairo city centre. It looks like an ordinary free-standing structure during the day.

The best time to visit the tower is when the sun set because it is the time when the lights all around starts twinkling. Although I have seen the tower at night with its purple-light colours, I did not have the chance to take a photo of this beautiful scene.

The Cairo tower is designed like a latticework tube and is like a lotus plant that fans out slightly on the top where you will find the observation deck and a restaurant.

The Cairo Tower has a nice restuarant at the top and the views are amazing.
There is only one draw back it has only one lift so it takes ages to get to the top then down again, this was in 2003 it might have changed since

I am very sorry I wasn't able to go there. It was closed due to the renovation. I know I missed the great views but I am aware that renovation was necesary as it was realy in bad state, at least, I was told so. If I ever go to Cairo again, I will surely visit it.

Cairo Tower - July 2005

Located in the Gezira Island, this early '60s tower was built as a symbol of Nasserite Egypt, and has since become an important monument in Cairo. The top of the tower offers amazing views of Cairo and the Nile. During my visit in April 2007, the Tower was in the process of being enveloped in scaffolding in preparation for restoration work.
