A 185 meter tower built in 1961 - definately one of the biggest buildings in Cairo.

A good activity and great photo opportunity. Costs around £3 to £4 each depending on the exchange rate. Beware of the hawkers who you can't even escape from when up the tower.

Cairo Tower is a structure that stands on an island in the middle of the Nile and that offers a fantastic view on the city. The price to get to the top is higher for foreigners than Egyptains, about 20 Egyptain pounds, but is definitely worth it.

Completed in 1961, Cairo Tower is 187 meters tall. That makes it 45 meters taller than the great pyramid. The tower has the best view of all of Cairo and on a clear day you can make out the pyramids in the distance (although the haze over Cairo rarely lifts). Inside the tower there is a rotating restaurant where world leaders enjoy dining. Egypt is one of the world leader in American aid and Cairo Tower was built with misused American funds. Some of the best view are at sunset and at night.

Cairo Tower is open every day from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. the next morning.

If you really want to have a view of the city the best place to be is at the top of Cairo tower. Theres a moving restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal while looking down on the city.

Directions: You can walk over el tahrir bridge to the island as I did , if you can handle the crazy traffic but most people just take a taxi.

It is well worth climbing up the Cairo Tower in time for Sunset to admire the views over the city. The views from the Tower are in one of my Cairo travelogues.

Don't bother with the rip off restaurant at the top though!

Make sure you time your visit to the Cairo Tower just right. If you want to see the pyramids make sure you get there after the fog/smog has burned off a bit and before the wind ruins your time up there.

If you can time it just right you'll enjoy 360 degree views of Cairo from the tower located in Zemalak. There is also a revolving restaurant and cafe you can visit for a fee. 100 EGP for the restaurant and 60 EGP to have a beverage at the Cafe.

The tower is open from 0900 until an hour after midnight.

Directions: Just down the street from the Blue Nile floating restaurant
