wander around the Khan-Al-Khalili bazar in Islamic Cairo. You'll be amazed by the overwhelming amount of what's on sale. The place is also littered with monumental mosques (the Al-Hussein mosque is in the pic), so there's a lot to see and do.

12.Prior to 1087, Cairo was not really much of a fortified city, having sun dried brick walls, though this weakness had demonstrated itself on occasions. That year, Badr ad-Din el-Gamali, the visor of El-Mustansir, employed three Syrian brothers from Edessa to build of stone the three main gateways of the Fatimid wall, improving city’s fortification. One of these three massive gates is Bab Zuwaila. http://www.touregypt.net/babzuwayla.htm
Khan al-Khalili Bazaar
A fascinating jumble of laneways and passages packed full of tiny shops. I did quite a bit of shopping in here. Follow the street along and you'll also find a local market where there are less tourists.

Islamic Cairo: Khan al-Khalili
The largest bazaar in the world. Just let yourself loose and go on a shopping spree here, but remember to bargain hard - it's a very interesting experience.
