It is believed as the oldest pyramid in Egypt. The entrance was less than 50LE in February 2007 but I believe it may increase by time. Always half price for the student card holders. The Sakkara area is a quite big one, it takes a long walking from the entrance ticket desk. Take a tour package from your hotel or any travel agency. Usually will be 50US$ each with the Giza tour, Sound and the light show, a car and a tour guide. It will be very dusty, windy, and hot in this area. Wear shoes, sunblock, sunglasses and hat/cap. Dont forget to bring water. You still can feel the heat even on winter time. Many things you may see in this Sakkara area. The step pyramid, the court room, the tombs, the door or spirit, you will see the real ancient egyptian alphabet painted on the wall in here too. I may say the historical things in Sakkara are more than the ones in Giza pyramids area. Do not miss it.

The Court/Colonede, Front View, Sakkara by pangtidor, 1 more photos The Court room is the entrance of Step Pyramid in Sakkara. It is also called colonede, as you may see 40 colons, presenting 20colons for each north and south of Egypt. Everything inside the court room was originally located there, except the pathway and one small block in the middle of the pathway area. Great architecture of the ancient civilization.

The Ramses II room will be located in Memphis Museum, the entrance fee will be included in Memphis Museum ticket (30LE,in February 2007). The room will located on your right, behind the security checking. You can take pictures inside. The best pictures should be taken from the first floor. There will be stairs on your left after after the room`s entrance. The huge statue of Ramses II was too difficult to be moved to other places, so they built the museum on the location where they have found this.

The Memphis museum is surrounded by stone wall and just next to the Sakkara pyramids area. The entrance fee in February 2007 was 30LE.It may increase after it. The great things to see will be Ramses II`s room, Ramses II`s sphinx, Ramses II`s statue, limestone sarchopagus and statues. There will be some vendors at the left side and some may follow you to offer gifts. Just be careful, dont try to entertain when any vendors will come to you and give you something. One of our tour mate was facing the problem to leave that area. The vendor has given him `a small hospitality gift`, he tried to refused it and the vendor just said it was only a free gift. He was running after him after few minutes for the tip. Check out the pictures.

King Djozer`s Tomb, Steps Pyramid Shakkara Egypt by pangtidor It is located at Steps Pyramid, the opposite side of the collonete area. King Djozer was the one believed built the Step Pyramid. During the Pharoonic time, they used to have two tombs. One tomb for the body and the heart (they believed, heart is significantly important for the second life) and the other tomb will be the organs they removed for the mummification process). This tomb will be for the body and the heart of King Djozer and totally covered by the stones. You may peep the tomb from a small hole, facing the tomb. There is a good story for this tomb. While peeping the tomb and staring the King eyes, you may make a wish and it will come true. I made a wish there, I am still waiting for it to come true.:-))

Memphis is the oldest capital of Egypt located about 45 to an hour drive from Cairo. Here you can find the open air museum that showcases different kinds of statues for Ramses II, a statue of an alabaster Sphinx, Triad of memphis, Stone coffin etc. A special room for the huge statue of Ramses II is located just within the area. The statue is well preserved and in a very good condition. Just wondering how did they know that the statue was made in honor of Ramses II? Most of the statues that you can find in Cairo/ Egypt, there is a stamp called "Cartoush" which states the name to whom the statue was made for. In this case, the stamp or cartoush is located on the right shoulder of the statue which says "Ramses II" (check photo no. 3) Also, the statue was carved in one big block of stone...perfectly made with its muscles, ears, arms and fingers clearly defined. Note: All the statues of the pharaohs are made similar to each other..with its common features like a false beard, headdress, dagger, right foot at the back and defined muscles of the body.

This Alabaster Sphinx can be found in Memphis open air museum. The statue is made from a white stone called alabaster and so it was called as such. They say that the statue of a Sphinx is patterned from a head of a pharaoh for "intelligence" while the body of a lion for "strength". This kind of figure is made in honor of a King to represent that they rule the whole Egypt and they have the power to control it. Although there are many theories to whom this statue was made for, our tourguide says that it was made in honor of Hatshepsut, the first and only female ruler of Egypt during 1700BC. This staue was made just like any other for a pharaoh, without any trace that it was made for a female ruler because she believed that she is "female ruler who ruled as a King." In this figure, they didnt find any cartoush from the statue.

The Bent Pyramid of Sneferu by uglyscot More pyramids that preceded that of Khufu. The Red Pyramid is the first true pyramid. It appears red from a distance but is actually made from yellow stone. Inside is a bit tough but according to my son, worth it. The Bent Pyramid is another of Sneferu's pyramids, like the Red Pyramid. The builders had to alter the slope part way up, thus giving it a bent shape. It also has a fair amount of white outer covering. Both pyramids, and other collapsed ones, are on a wide open plain. Getting there takes you past some interesting scenery with sand dunes. Leave a Comment Directions: quite well signposted, but quite a distance through the village and out until you reach a checkpoint.

The Step Pyramid by uglyscot This site is an absolute MUST. The reconstructed walls, the pyramid itself are fantastic. they had far more impact on me than the Great Pyramid at Giza. I loved the feet, which are all that remain of a group of figures.. There is so much to see-Mereruka's tomb, the tomb of Ti and the Pyramids of Teti and Unas. All give a true picture of life in Ancient Egypt, and are a must if you can't get down to Luxor. Those with claustraphobia or back troubles could manage the Pyramid of Teti , just. Leave a Comment
