We prefered to walk in Cairo, but to Old Cairo we took the metro.
The stations are clean. The tickets are extremely cheap. The first carriage is for ''women only"'.
There were only two lines, a third is under construction. So there not many places to reach with the metro yet.

there are alot of convenience transportaions in cairo like air condition buses,luxury trains,
swimming hotels,taxi,tourist cars,river buses,
carries and subway it's the fastest way in transportation and it's almost arrive to all the twon.

It's Cairo Metro Map..
the metro pass Cairo in the ground, but it's under ground in downtown area..
and in Cairo opera house station "underground" the opera house made a nice gallary inside it :)

In the cairo there are a big daily and nocturnal net of transporting. Thr Heliopolis Metro, joins it with Medinet Nasr and the Matareya, The Helwan Metro begins in Bab el Hadid and finish in Helwan it pass for 14 station.
The underground Metro between Ramses and the Marg, the Marine bus it work with regular lines and with good prices.

I'm planning to go Cairo and not keen on the tour operator/ taxis. What did you do finally and what advise is best?
I got to know that bus Number 82 goes to the Pyramids. Is that air con?

The Cairo Metro is great, fast, efficient, frequent and CHEAP - only 1EP per ride
Cand ask for more than that

It can get so hot and crowded in the metro, especially if you are gonna be on for a while. Bring water and a fan. The should be a carriage reserved for women at the front, which i always take......
