Well, to lie on the safe side, I always ask for warm water. If not, at the restaurant, I'll ask for a bottle of mineral water and insist that I open the bottle myself. If you get the waiter to open it, sometimes, they's just refilling it with tap water and pretend to open the bottle cap.

not because of parasites or bacteria, but because it's loaded with chlorine to kill the parasites or bacteria. unless you drink swimming pool water all day long, your digestive system probably can't handle it. but don't worry, bottled water is everywhere and relatively cheap!

It is a good idea to drink bottled water instead of tap water as you can sometimes get diarrhea. However I mainly used type water and was fine. It's a good idea to buy bottled water but if you don't I'm sure you will be fine!

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER! Do not even brush your teeth with it. Do not eat fruits or vegetables that are not cooked or able to be peeled. Do not get ice in your drink. If a bottle of water or cola comes to you already opened- do not drink it. Make sure they open the bottles at your table or else it could have been watered down with tap water. Boiled water is OK. This is an important warning- at the very least you spend a day on the toilet instead of sight-seeing! You can also get very, very seriously sick. Also be aware of current travel advisories to Egypt. Sometimes it is risky to travel there. I did not have any problems on either of my trips there, but the situation is constantly changing there. Tourism is a major source of income for the country so the results of losing tourism because of terrorism would have a huge impact on the economy. The government does a great deal to protect tourists in Egypt.

I agree about the water. Also make sure that when you get water out, that you see them break the seal on the water bottle.

One good thing about the heat is that I was actually drinking the correct amount of water. I think at home I am probably dehydrated most of the time!
