If you come here to visit the church by your own it will be quite difficult to find it.
The church is not on the way; it's even impossible to see it over the buildings.
For me it was even difficult to thing that a church can be located on that place.
You have to pass through a passage created by two edifices built too close one to each other, with washed clothes hanged on the wire for drying.
Local women are sitting at the doors and talking, while the kids are playing in the dust.

It is common in Egypt to have a mosque close to a church.
Seen over the buildings around the Church of the Holy Virgin at Musturud, the minaret of the mosque it is quite an impressive view.
Moreover it was an interesting moment when from the church courtyard, plunged into a loud Coptic song, we have heard the call to the prayer for muslims.

Mostorod is located at around 10 km northeast of Cairo, on the site of ancient Heliopolis.
The Holy Family left Tel Basta towards the south until they reached the town of Mostorod, which was also known as AI-Mahammah, which in Arabic means the place of taking bath, because the Virgin Mary gave Jesus a bath here and washed His clothes.
As most of the places around Cairo, the area is very poor with many ruined or unfinished buildings.
