necropolis of al-Bagawat-

The Necropolis of al-Bagawat is a Christian cemetary. Most of the hundreds of tombs are from the 4th to the 6th century AD.
They are mud-brick traditional domed Coptic tombs.
Some tombs have wall paintings with scens from the bible. The paintings are faded very rapidly.

Entrance from 8 am till 5 pm (6 pm in summer).
Entrance fee: 20 Egyptian pound, reduction for students.

temple of Hibis, ceiling

The ceiling of the entrance gate is beautifull painted, like you see at Medinet Habu at the westbank of Luxor, also dedicated to Amun.
The colours are faded and so the image is not good to see anymore.

temple of Hibis

When we visited the Temple of Hibis in 1999, the temple was under repair.
You can't compare this rather small tempel complex with the huge ones in the Nile Valley, but our visit was wonderfull. Nobody else around except the guard of the site.
And it's special to find a temple in the middle of the desert.
