From Al-Kharga you can take the bus to Cairo and Asyut (several buses each day). To Luxor are only three buses a week.
There are also possibilities by air and train, but not at a daily base.
We had our own bus and went from al-Kharga to Luxor. This time no escorts of the police (like we had from Dakhla to Kharga).
The road to Luxor is very scenic with great sanddunes.
They told us it's not possible (or not easy) to drive from Luxor to al-Kharga with you own car/bus.
