As almost all the Christian sites in Egypt located in regions with Muslim majority, the Church of St. George in Belbeis is usually closed, except the services time.
This doesn't mean that you cannot visit it.
Our guide just asked for the monk which was taking care of the church and he opened it for us and presented us the history of this important place.

This is the oldest part of the church which is still currently used as a chapel.
An old iconostas is hidden by a velvet curtain, while a few icons of the Holy Family, St. George and the Apostoles can be found here.

The upper church is the new part of the church built in 1960.
Except the wooden iconostas, the interior of the church can be considered relatively austere. Right from the entrance the attention is attracted by the beautiful wooden iconostas with different shapes of white crosses, adorned with icons of the Holy Family and other saints.

Inside the simple interior of the church there are a couple of St. George representations, depincting the saint killing the dragon.

The Church of St. George is located in the center of the city and dates from the 1960.
It is rather a simple and relatively small church.
The only ornaments presenting the Holy Family and St. George are placed on the iconostas.
The church is protected by a high wall which gives you the impression of a fortress.

Belbeis is the ancient city Philippos.
Located in Sharqiah Governorate, Belbeis has always been a fortress city.
At the entrance to the city is the barrage built during the reign of Baybars and the Emir el-Geish Mosque originally built in 640 and renovated in 1593.
