in Tanis , there are so many nilemeters , those are holes which are used to adjust the level of the nile river . be careful when taking photos not to fall at the edge.

Okay , I'm going to explain how to make it , but really this kind of trip is not for a solo female traveller , you have to get a partener ..
You can reach San El-hagar by heading to Faquoos first from Cairo "Aboud station" using a microbus or shared taxi (aka peugeot) , then from Faquoos , take a microbus to San Al-hagar . microbuses are not comfortable , and in my opinion it is not suitable for a solo female traveller that does not speak arabic .
The trip would take about 3 hours from Cairo (it is 200 KM)

San Al-Hagar is not a place to go alone , You should have a company , specially if you are a woman , it is prefered to go with a company if you a man though ..
when I went there, I was the only one in that desert !! I meant it , now one was there ,except the security men who were so far from the location of the statues ..you might be attached by a dog or whatever , I have not seen any dogs , but I have seen their footprints ,or maybe they were for foxes or worse ,who knows ! :D
Also there are some holes in the sand ,I do not know for what kind of animals they are !!
