The Place

by Diana75

"The Place" is located in Zamalek, near Sheraton El Gezirah, and has a magnificent view of the Nile. The restaurant, similar to a boat anchored on the Nile's shore, is on three levels and live music is played on the top terrace. We went there twice and different bands were singing both Egyptian and international music: the first night was a "Latino" night and the second one was a "French" night. Anyway the bands were both good and we had a lot of fun and danced a lot. For an enjoyable and dancing night out it's a good choice.

Galabaya party on the Nile cruise ship

by Diana75

The Galabaya party on the first evening on board of the Nile cruise ship was one of the real highlights.Galabaya is the traditional costume that many Egyptians still wear and can be bought either from the bazaar or directly on the ship.Actually on some ships the galabaya can be also rented only for the party, but as far as I heard the price is close to the one that you pay for a new one.The prices are according to the fabric and the quality of work and sometimes on the ship you can find even lower prices than the ones in the bazaar. For example, the average price for a normal galabaya on our ship was around EUR 7-8 but for a more original outfit you should also add the head kerchief. The makeup was included in the price of the outfit. After some funny dancing contests on Egyptian music that involved almost all the tourists on the ship, we finished dancing until 2 o'clock in the night on...

Dinner at Fantasia

by susie46

Walk approx 10 minutes from Motels Street and you cannot miss Fantasia ! Taxi about £1.00. This complex is massive, go for a look during the day to see if its for you, the guides will try and sell you a ticket during the day as they say it will be so busy during the evening. We had no problem getting on on the designated european night ( tues and thurs ). Cost £18 for buffet and entertainment. A good value for money evening. You will not believe the decor inside, gorgeous chandaliers and mosaics all over, complete with the golden statues. The dining area is great. Belly dancers perform whilst you are eating. As you walk in the complex you see flamingoes, turkeys and other birds. After the buffet you move into the entertainment area, to sit and watch a horse riding show. Its a great change from the usual entertainment !Unfortunately we did not take a photo of Fantasia, the photo is of the...

The Nile: along the Nile

by uglyscot

The local Egyptians spend a lot of time walking beside the Nile at night, especially across the bridges and corniche. The young particularly do this as it is probably the only way of being able to meet the opposite sex alone without being behind closed doors. Moslems believe that when a male and female are in a closed room alone, the devil is lurking there too! So nightime is for courting couples. There are a lot of cafes and 'nightclubs' too, but for a free night out, strolling along the Nile, seeing the lights reflected in the water is romantic. No

Fantasia: Arabian Night

by viddra

Experience the sound and taste of Egypt-horse riding, belly dancing, fakirs, dervish dancing, Egyptian cuisine and all. What's more you get to hear the short version of Egypt's exciting history in English, German, French or Russian. You should bring a jacket because a part of the performance is given outside and evenings can be cold.

Luxor: Discos everywhere

by noprobleminafrica

There are numerous discos throughout Luxor. Most of the big hotels have one, and there are many others lined up on the Corniche and around the budget hotels. They are pretty casual, and play mostly the newest western music. Most don't open until midnight. Only the hotel discos have a cover chrage, but pretty much all of them serve overpriced drinks. Many of the smaller dicos have young Egyptian men who get paid to drum up business, so they're pretty actively inviting people (especially women) to go with them that night. It could definitely be fun!

Murphey's Irish Pub, King's Head Pub: Places to meet locals and other travelers

by noprobleminafrica

These 2 Pubs are very popular, and very near to each other. They both have good menus, decent food, and lots of travelers. Both also have pool tables and a variety of western music. The King's Head is a bit more of a younger crowd. depending on how you feel about hooking up with a local guy, it's either a great opportunity, or a real hassle. The Irish Pub doesn't allow solo Egyptian men to hang out there, so it's much less of a pick up spot. There is also a disco on the bottom level.

Theme evening on board of the Voyageur

by Muya

The staff organized theme evenings to entertain its passenger, like a Nubian evening with Nubian cooking and dance show that was very nice. Then as you can see on the picture, there was also an Egyptian night, where everyone could rent or buy an adequate costume...which I found at first to be forcing our hand a bit . But you could actually rent something on board for 3 euros or so... We really had a great time, and I enjoyed wearing that djellabah, which was very agreable to wear. Dinner was made of excellent Egyptian specialties. Egyptian/North African clothing was required. Nothing compulsory though...

Andreas: The Shesha experience!

by crewsada

If you want to try smoking shesha(perfectly legal!) on your visit to Egypt then try this place. Its located on the Nile but from Zamelek Islands' corniche facing across to Cairo Downtown. The waiter can bring out a tray of about 30 different flavours to choose from to smoke in your She-sha pipe. There is also various wines, beers and cocktails on offer, as well as a restaurant menu. It has a nice blend of local and foreign mix, plus front seat views of Nile city and the river itself .There is a cover charge for getting in (30egp) But you can take that from your drinks tab once paying up afterwards. None

Cairo Jazz Club: Live Music

by flynboxes

This is probably the only venue for live jazz in Cairo. The night I was there they had what amounted to a college band playing. If you are really into jazz it's probably best to check the web site first. This is a great place to spend an evening in Cairo though. You could get by with jeans but probably not the t-shirt.
