The biggest fresh water fish I have been told are the Nile Perch and this is just an unreal way to fish and sight see...your desert safari starts in Aswan and can take you all the way down to Abu Simbal to have a look at the Famous temples and then fish all the way back !

Luxor, Farmers Villages

by Joenes

If you would like to know a bit more about the lifes of Egyptian farmers nowadays just ask one of the many cabdrivers if he can just drive you through the villages on the Westbank of Luxor and you will soon be where no other tourists come.If you are lucky a youngster will come up to you and offer you a "tour" through his village and even his family's house and if you give him a good tip he will let you take some pictures inside so you have something to remember this "off the beaten path" trip by.Very interesting!!

Egypt in Moscow

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Egyptian Moscow really situated in the Pushkin museum of Fine Arts. The unique collection of Vladimir Semenovich Golenischeff is exhibited there. The Statue of Pharaoh Amenemhet III — is a superb specimen of Egyptian sculptural portrait of the period. Portraits found in the end of the XIX century in the tombs by the oasis Faiyum, Central Egypt are the earliest examples of painting in the Museum's collection.V.S. Golenischeff was the first Russian professional Egyptologist. In his youth he was greatly interested in Egyptology. First of all his name is connected with the world famous collection which is known to be the core of the Egyptian collection kept in the Pushkin museum of Fine Arts. V.S. Golenischeff began gathering Egyptian antiquities in his youth and considered this matter to be very important. When he visited Egypt he always tried to find a new monument. The fate was favorable...

Egypt in London

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

My Egyptian London consists of the Egyptian halls of the British Museum. The main sight is the well-known Rosetta Stone. It was found in Egypt in 1799 by the French but later turned over to the British, contains text written in three alphabets: Greek, Egyptian, and hieroglyphics. Decoding the hieroglyphics on the stone remained a puzzle to many experts for years. This book provides a biography of the stone, describing the contributions made by many linguists that eventually led to deciphering the mysterious symbols. There a lot of other art masterpieces there. The Cairo Museum has only a copy of the Rosetta Stone.

Egypt in Paris

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Egyptian Paris begins for everybody at Place Concorde. It accepted the final view in 1840 when the Egyptian obelisk from Luxor was set up in its center. It was presented to the king of France by Egyptian pasha. It has 23 m in height and is decorated by hieroglyphs which mark famous acts of the pharaoh Ramzes the Second. I admired the Obelisk and dreamed to watch Egyptian Obelisks in Luxor and Aswan. I succeeded 12 years later…Egyptian art is represented in Louver with its full strong. Though having visited this Museum three times frankly speaking I went along Egyptian halls very fast. May be now after my trip to Egypt I would be able to revisit Louver and have a look at these halls with new eyes.

Egypt in Berlin

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

My first meeting with one of the great Egyptian art masterpieces was held in Berlin in 1995. The statue of Nefertiti by Tutmos is keeping there about a hundred years. Nefertiti, wife and co-ruler with the pharaoh Akhenaten and stepmother of legendary boy King Tutankhamun, has long been considered one of the most powerful women of ancient Egypt. A sculpted bust of Nefertiti, whose name means "the beautiful woman has come," is exhibited in the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. The bust, which dates from approximately 1340 B.C., was discovered in 1912 by German archeologist Ludwig Borchardt. The structure of Nefertiti's material, plaster over limestone is very sensitive. The Egyptian (Aegyptisches) Museum (Schlossstrasse 70; +49-30/3435-7311, fax +49-30/3435-7312; www.smb.spk-berlin.de, aemp@smb.spk-berlin.de; closed Monday)

City of the Dead (Cairo)

by jorgejuansanchez

This is an unusual visit, not far from Khan al Khalili market, in the outskirts of Cairo. You need an Egyptian guide with you; otherwise local people will throw you stones without pity. You will see an old necropolis complex with hundreds of thousands of indigent people having managed to construct their “homes” among the tombs of the cemetery. But there are unexpected surprises, as pointed me up my old and “habibi” friend Mahmoud, a good guide, official one, who speaks Spanish and English, whom you can meet in Felfela restaurant, or playing backgammon and smoking chicha in a narguile in a lane of Talaat Harb Street. He showed me the impressive and beautiful mausoleums of the Mameluke sultans where now live the descendents of the old porters of the graves. That was really an amazing place to live, like in palaces. Thanks to Mahmoud we got an invitation from these families (I gave them...

City of the Dead

by Todd2006

Preferably, a day activity unless you like to really get freaked out. Our group ventured into a place called the City of the Dead....good touristy name...suckered me. It's an old cemetary in the Coptic Christian area of Cairo. People have taken up residence in the abandoned buildings where mourners could stay with their family. We got lost in there and ran into a few interesting and friendly people. We ended up following bicycle tracks to find a way out.

The Alabaster Sphinx near Memphis

by Paul2001

The Alabaster Sphinx stands near the ruins of Memphis. It was carved for an unknown pharaoh sometime between 1700 B.C. and 1400 B.C. The Alabaster Sphinx is 8m (26 ft) long and 4m (13 ft) tall and weighs around 90 tons. It is assumed, but not for certain, that this monument may have stood outside of the Temple of Ptah along with the Colossus of Ramses II. The statue was in fact found lying in a pool of water where it must of laid for many years. To be honest, it is easy to overlook the signifance of the Alabaster Sphinx if you have already seen the Sphinx of Giza which I had done the previous day. Although much smaller, it is remarkable all the same.
