December and January in Egypt can actually get quite cold. I highly recommend bring a warm coat if travelling in these months. Egyptian styles are not really winter ski type coats...more overcoats. I wish I had brought my long wool coat! Heed this advice. You will thank me! PS: Upper Egypt and the Red Sea Coast are not quite as cold in these months. If you plan to hike Mt. Sinai before sunrise, you will need a heavy coat even in the fall and spring months. Many of the lower priced hotels are not equipped with heat. You should be fine with a blanket but going out at night can be quite chilly! Here is a link with a chart of average temperatures for Egypt. Egypt uses 220 voltage so be sure to bring a power adapter and a power converter. The power adapter allows the item to be plugged into the wall and the power converter allows the current to be changed from 220 to 110 (which is what is used in the USA). If your item doesn't have an internal converter built in, then you will need a both. The plugs in Egypt are usually 2 rounded prongs. Here is a link to a lightweight voltage converter suitable for using for hairdryers, curling irons and the like. It is NOT useful for electronic items like lap tops. http://www.international-electrical-supplies.com/converters1.html Here is a link for plug adapters. http://www.international-electrical-supplies.com/egypt-plug-adapters.html See my tip on laptops for more information. ------ Posted by Megypt Leave a Comment

It would be best if you pack a bottle of either Pepto Bismol or Immodium with you. You can probably find them in most pharmacies in Egypt but its better to be safe than sorry. If you dont take any, there is also some med called ANTINAL(nilfuroxazide) that you can easily find in most pharmacies in Egypt. ------------- Posted by Khadi Leave a Comment

Sunglasses are an item I prefer to bring from home but there are some great sunglasses shops that the latest designer names can be found in at about the same prices as one would find in the USA. If you are going to be out in the desert, you might want to bring a pair or plan to buy a pair with a high UV rating. The glare from the sand can be rather harsh, same with the water if you are going diving. ----- Posted by Megypt Leave a Comment

Most laptops come with an internal converter so one doesn't need to buy one...theoretically. I, however, managed to harm my laptop the 1st week I was living in Egypt. I had to get it repaired and ended up buying a power converter from Radio Shack (can be found all over Egypt). I think it cost around 40 US$ at the time. Here is a link similar to the large power converter I bought (weighed a ton, not suitable for lugging all over Egypt as a tourist). http://www.international-electrical-supplies.com/converters.html If you are going to be living there then I suggest budgeting the converter into your plans. It will help protect from power surges. If you plan to bring a surge protector with multiple plugs that has a power switch on it, I believe you will still need the converter to plug the surge protector into (unless the surge protector is designed for 220). I managed to blow mine out somehow and looking back, I think this is why. For regular electric items, see my other tip on the subject. ------- Megypt Leave a Comment

For your safe and comfortable journey in Egypt, keep these ones handy and secured. PASSPORT AND THE TICKETS for the police checking on the train, bus, and tourism sites. 20, 10, 5 EGYPTIAN POUND BANKNOTES; for tipping if you are happy with the services only. 1 EGYPTIAN POUND BANKNOTES for toilet fee; you have to pay for almost all the public toilet in Egypt. WATER for the heat; the water at the tourist sites will be ridiculously expensive. HAND OR LIQUID SANITIZER for cleaning your hands. THE SUNBLOCK for the sunlight; the sun will be still unbearable at some tourist sites even on winter time. The most important thing is YOUR CAMERA AND HANDYCAM for the unexpected magnificent views anywhere.

All of the children in the towns we visited asked for one thing - pens. They needed them to do their school work. Of course, I had forgotten that when I went to Kenya, all of the kids there wanted gum and pens. Bring some packs of Bic pens - easy to pack and will make lots of kids happy. Leave a Comment

Use a backpack to carry everything on the mountain. Carrying something in your hands it will slow down your climbing.
Even if you climb Mt. Sinai in the summer months there are some mandatory things to take along: socks, hat, good walking shoes, scarf, sweater or jacket. On the top of the mountain is really cold. The ones that are not willing to carry anything with them, they can rent blankets for 10 LE (USD 2-).
Don’t forget also a pocket lamp. It will be more than useful for the final part of the climbing.

Bring the good backpack for the young ones and backpackers; get the trolley-strong type for the seniors and luxury travellers.
Bring the light and cotton ones for the summer time (March to September-October). Bring a jacket and trousers for the hikings and rail-bus trip. For the ladies, bring alternative layers; in case you see the dirty looks on the street from your mini dress. Good walking or sport shoes and more shocks will be a must.
Bring the emergency medicines for fever and diarrhea; the pantyliners are difficult to find in some areas too. Tissues, wet tissues or hand sanitizer in your bag all the time. Take the powder for your shoes and feet with you too.
Bring a big capacity of memory card, you are going to take thousands of great pictures here. Mini DVD for your handycam is difficult to find in some area.
Pack the beach gear if you are going to go at The Red Sea Area.
Many good and complete diving equipment in diving sites of Red Sea, dont burden yoursef with the heavy ones.
