Be sure to wrap up warmly in the Winter

by shelnlin

Depending on how long you stay, one reasonable sized suitcase and a day backpack is sufficent. Sensible walking shoes, you will be seeing alot and a good pair of boots, sneakers or walking shoes is a must. A warm jacket is essential during the cooler months, polar fleeces are great and some long trousers. Mosquito repellent is a must, dehyration salts, sunblock for the summer and during the day, a Good sunhat (it can get quite sunny even in the wintertime) Imodium is great for upset tummys, Sunglasses.

Tissue!!

by Gysel

I personally like a backpack, since we were in and out all over the place Cool Breezy clothing, Flipflops, sneaks Bring tissue for the washroom, unless your staying at the Hilton! There is no toilet paper anywhere. Lots of Film, we brought 10 films with us, but we also went to parts of Africa aswell

Pack Light - Save Room for Souvenirs!

by saraheg77

Make sure you pack light on the clothes and pack a small separate bag for souvenirs. Souvenirs are cheap and you're going to need lots of room to bring home all the cool stuff you're going to buy :) Bring lightweight linen or cotton clothes and nothing too skimpy for the ladies. Carry some sort of tissues with you at all times because most restroom facilities do not have toilet paper! Bring lots of film or plenty of memory on your digital camera! I was there a week and took over 200 pictures, plus my fiance took about 500 on the digital camera. Get a disposable panorama if you don't have theh capability on your regular camera. Bring sunglasses and a hat!

by Greatfun45au

One good case and one good carry bag or packpack....but you can buy cases there too. Take half of what you think you need as there are places to buy clothes and you really can get all you need there.Sunnies are important Toilet paper for the ladies....true:)Usual supplies for tummy rumbles etc Everywhere you go you can buy what you need Take half of what you think you need as all the things you need can be brought there!

Pens

by jrd69

We don't believe in giving anything to someone for nothing Especially money or sweets! We had a young girl (10?) walk about 2km with us to show us the way back to the Metro. My cheap pen seemed to become her most valuable possession! A few cheap pens for helpful or friendly children are on my packing list

This is what you need (especially if backpaking)

by Anita_Porec

- the less the better ....you don't want to drag luggage around with you ...especially because bus and train stations are not very clean.... - comfortable walking shoes- HAT (hide from the sun!)- SARONG or something to cover your head with if you go into a mosque or remote area in the city- - Pepto Bismol?! ( first, take care of yourself...but iif it happens....you'll need it)- aloe vera (if you burn)- GUM (I couldn't find any that's not la few years old) - ZOOM (so you can take pictures from far away and people don't chase you for money) - FILTERS ( you will take many pictures in the morning..... and it just so happens that in the morning you will be taking pictures AGAINST THE SUN at the following locations - Giza, Valley of the Kings, Hachepsut.....)- TRIPOD is awesome for sunrises and light shows , except they will charge you for it everywhere ( I lost mine at Abu Simbel) -...

No Brainer

by jenniferhen

Girls, cover up!! This should not be a surprise as you will be in Egypt right?!? The most horrifying thing I saw in Egypt was 2 white tourist women wearing string bikini tops and very short cut off shorts that said "SEXY" across the ass. (in Karnak temlel!!)And you wonder why Arab men have a low opinion of Western women...have some respect for other cultures PLEASE!!!!! Last time I checked there was no pool party at Karnak temple.... Ifyou are going to dress like a scank, I can assure you that the Arab men will more than likely treat you like one... they will not dish out respect if you do not respect their culture.

Sun Hat and Wet Wipes

by katiecoos

Make sure you take a sun hat, one that will cover the back of your neck you can burn very quickly in the intense heat. |Its a good idea to take wet wipes. The toilets are not very nice. Also after handling money use a wet wipe, it may save you from getting a bad tummy.

Fighting the Heat - Part 1

by aliante1981

Travels to places like Egypt involves a lot of fighting the heat, especially if you, like me (I am still surprised as to why I did that), go there right in the middle of the summer. Here’s a list of useful items to take:- Hats and other covering: Large brimmed hats that provide head covering and some shade. For women, they are also a proof of modesty, welcomed when visiting old churches and mosques. Scarves and the like covering shoulders and arms can keep the sun off during treks. A cloth hat or scarf can be soaked to help keep the head cool.- "Squeeze Breeze": this is a water bottle with a sprayer and a battery-operated fan attached. The beach toy to take with you!- Sun block: While sun blocks may be purchased in Egypt, people tend to prefer sticking with their own favourite brand (the skin, too, ‘gets used’ to it), and there’s not guarantee you’ll find it on the spot. So take your...
