LIGHT CLOTHES

by trotador

During the summer is HOT around +40º C. I have been there in November and it was quite hot, sort pants and T-shirts. Cairo was a little bit cooler. Buy something for your stomach, the food is cook and washed with Nile water. Avoid salad.

Hard to Find !!!

by wandering360

Bring sandals / flip-flops for showers, etc. Carry toilet paper and soap & water (or alcohol wipes / gels) with you everywhere . Don't expect them to be provided when you need them the most. (In 1992, most public facilities only had water.)At night, wear long sleeves clothing and have insect-repellent handy.Bring sufficient personal toiletries (especially contact lens solution and personal hygene products) Bring your own film or at least buy them in stores before you go to a temple, etc. At attractions, the film has usually been sitting in the hot sun for days - if not months. Beaches often have corals, etc. so bring beach shoes (when swimming).

Deserts are cold!

by bpwillet

Don't bog yourself down with lots of bags. It may become more of an annoyance than a relief. Most everything can be found in Cairo. If you need or want another bag, there are plenty of places to by them as well. One thing I didn't quite realize is how cold it can be in the winter. I spent most of my time in Cairo and it was wonderful during the day. However, temperatures can drop at night considerably. Plan on packing some warmer clothes even if you don't think you wil need them. You will be glad you did. I found that the lightweight jackets and sweaters I brought were sufficient but it was also more comfortable to wear layers. Imodium is always a good bet, but it can also be found in some pharmacies. Bring with you whatever you feel you will need. I used a normal SLR camera during my visit and since then I have gone digital. I tend to take lots of pictures and then wait to develop...

~Citronella Scented Rucksack~

by freya_heaven

We were backpacking , so obviously a rucksack was the best luggage for us.(if very hot on our back at times at times)! loose comfortable cool clothes. Long skirts & Shirts are obviously a must. Insect repellant is a must if you are spending anytime on the Nile. I have heard Citronella is a good natural repellent if your not happy about using chemicals.

Wicking t-shirts

by FireMike

Shirts that wick away moisture like Nike Dri-Fit are great because otherwise you shirts get soaked in the intense heat. Didn't take malaria pills. Need toilet paper but you can buy it there if you run out. Most toilets don't have any. Camera cleaning gear and some filters to soften some of the harsh bright light. Some fast film for taking shots in museums and temples where flashes are not allowed. Digital cams were very handy for indoor shots because you could see right away if they turned out or not and you could take another one if neccessary. Candy or pens to give to kids.

Bring Cash

by ChicagoGuy

In Cairo, you might find cash machines, but I did not find any in the south. We took Egyptian pounds and American dollars with us. We did use a credit card a handful of time, mainly in the hotel and on the ship, but this is a cash country. Two of us used about $500 worth of currency in a week. This was enough.

Packing List for Egypt

by kushari

I do not recommend taking a bright coloured hard shell suitcase as they look expensive and it is assumed to contain expensive items.I have made the mistake in the past of taking a large suitcase and cramming it with clothes I could not possibly wear should I be staying for a month. All you need is one good medium sized case (not made of toughened nylon), a bright coloured ribbon to tie round it (easier to identify on luggage carousel), a small bag or rucksack for using day to day and a money belt. A fleece or hooded cardigan top is essential for the winter evenings.I wear loose baggy trousers and dresses as they keep me very cool.I don't wear sandals as there is always dust, pebbles and horse manure on the streets of Luxor. Some tourists assume that by wearing shorts, it keeps them cooler but this only exposes more skin to the burning sun as well as offending the locals. I found at my...

You don't have to bring drinking water!

by veigapaula

Big luggage but almost empty. To fill during the trip.Bring only the necessary. One change of clothes for each tour(2 a day), bathing suit, night clothing(to walk on streets),tenis shoes and slippers. Sun hat, solar cream, sun glasses All you can remember even for things that you have never suffered before...There is mineral water there. Don't do like I did: litres and litres of water burdening me... Digital camera with 512MB card.At least 3xoptical zoom, night scene, flash options, 3 or 4 megapixels(or more). Small bag to carry along with camera, drinking water, sun protector, cash, passport, tissues, notepad and cellphone. Bring school items, toys and candy to give to Nubian children.

My thoughts of Egypt.

by rachel_sun

I enjoyed Egypt. The people were friendly, the scenery and history was stunning.Egypt is a magical, mystical, fasinating place. There is so many things to see and do.I hope that i will go back one day and see the pyramids and the Red Sea.Egypt is special you have to go for yourself to see the size and beauty of temples.Telly does not do them justice. They took my breath away.Egypt,i will be back.
