 | Egypt Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 266 | | I know that we don't travel to a place like Egypt and eat at fast food ..now do we? Ok, I do sometimes. I remember thinking the night before I left to live in Egypt that I would not eat KFC for a year. I quickly found out these restaurants can easily be found and actually will deliever to your door, often until 2 a.m. in the morning! I actually ate more fast food while living in Egypt than I did while living in the states. The prices were about the same as one would find n the USA, meaning they were considered expensive by Egyptians due to the exchange rate. The sad part is, I could have saved alot of money by eating more local 'fast food' which were set at local rates....and it would have tasted better too! ----- Megypt Leave a Comment Theme: Fast FoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Can be found all over Cairo and other major cities

After days in Egypt my family kinda, well...got sick of the food, so we opted to try out the restaurant at the American University, which was atleast a 10-15minute walk from our hotel, was it worth the walk? You Bet! The restaurant was in style! It looked like we were not even in Egypt! The menu made me hungry and the prices were not to complain! 9L.E for a pasta Penne which was really filling! My brother had a Lasagna which was 15L.E and boy, was it delisious! If you want good food and a price which is acceptable to your budget, you should definitely land here, I swear, you will savor every bite!
Among the dishes they served, my favorite was the Pasta Penne. I really savored every bite, and to make it better simply add a dash of lemon, a little bit of pepper and sprinkle some salt on it and mix it. When you put it in your mouth you will taste your wonderful mixture together with the recipe put on it. Not only that but the portions are big, so I'm sure this will satisfy your cranky stomach! When I was going around the Arcadia Mall in Cairo, I notice a very familiar sign that of "Baskin Robins". I jump for joy! I never expected a Baskin Robins in Cairo. The Baskin Robins in Egypt has the same flavors you'll see in western countries. But I did notice that the price of the double scoop(which is 14L.E.)was much higher in Egypt. The taste of the Ice cream ain't the same as in the western world, but yet its still good! So if your willing to spurge for one good afternoon treat, simply go to the arcadia mall and satisfy your self with a good Baskin Robins Ice cream.
The best dish in this Ice cream parlo is the double scoop(Any selection among 18 flavors)fudge, and to top it off with a nife bake waffle! This was sooo good! The hot waffle plus the chocolate fudge with your choice of ice cream will simply melt in your mouth! This will make your day much more enjoyable and satisfying! The only problem is that this dish maybe kinda costly.(It cost 18L.E!)But I guess you could spurge just for one time! The first thing that I really wanted to try when going to Egypt was the Shawarma, for I heard that the Shawarma in Egypt is sooo juicy, and delicious and the best part, its CHEAP! (1-2$'s) Whenever I eat a Shawarma, I savor every bite! Its really nice to eat it in a place you can sit down, with a cozy atmosphere and a cup of coffee to go with it, and in Egypt, a place like this is not hard to find! When eating the Shawarma, don't forget to add the white sauce on it, it really blends with the flavor of the Shawarma! So remember, when you visit Egypt, let yourself try a tender juicy Shawarma!
The Shawarma! Its a really great snack in the afternoon with a cup of coffee to go with it! Oh, and to make your Shawarma much tastier, you can add sprinkle some pepper and salt, and maybe ask for a tomato to go with it in your sandwich, and when you eat it like this, believe me, you will LOVE IT!! If you are on a Nile Cruise Ship you do not have to stay away from salads or anything else, because you fear the curse of the Pharao. It is perfectly safe to eat and drink what they offer. The selection was extremely big, what you see in the picture is only the salad buffet, and then theres a hot meal buffet (2 or 3 different meats and vegetables) and always the option to take pasta. And then there is the Dessert Buffet - you canīt believe the sweets they have in Egypt. They take great efforts to always offer something new. Even the salads change every day. The food is included into the price of the Cruise, but for the drinks you have to pay. Prices (in Egyptian pounds): Beer 16 Mineral (1l) 5 Coke (3 dl) 7 Sprite (3dl) 7 Fruit juces 8 Wine 83 Oh and an advise: for the wine you definitely do not have to go to Egypt. The wine they grow here is ... drinkable - as long as you stay with red and rose, donīt think about white wine, we tried it 3 times and every bottle was bad. The imported wine is taxed with 400% so you seldom find it and it is very pricey.
Everything is good - just try it and donīt forget the Egyptian specialities! Leave a Comment Theme: BuffetDirections: MS Norma

Koshary is a delicious mixture of rice, lentils, chickpeas and macaroni, topped with crisp fried onions and served with a spicy tomato sauce. Along with foul, it really is Egypt's national dish - Nutritious, filling, delicious - and so cheap - the ultimate comfort food. You'll find little cafes that sell only koshary all over the city - no humming and haa-ing over a menu there - the choice is simply what size portion - small, medium or large! You'll also find it being sold on the street from carts, whether you eat from here or not depends on how you feel your stomach can cope with street food. St. Catherine Village's restaurant is offering very good food, for all tastes. You will find mixed international food, but dont miss the local food and the sweets. The waiters are very polite. Theme: LocalAddress: St. Catherine Village

It is rare that while visiting any city or town that I have traveled to that I have eaten in the same restaurant twice. The Aswan Moon is one of the those few exceptions. This partially because there are not all that many good restaurants in Aswan but also because I really liked this place. The Aswan Moon is on a boat sitting by the Corniche on the Nile. I ate my first lunch in Aswan here and would have my last dinner here also. At first it seemed like a great place to escape the sun and watch the feluccas sail up and down the Nile while I sucked on a beer. However the food was pretty good here and at night there was entertainment in the way of Nubian musicians.
While in Egypt for the most part I kept to the local cuisine. At the Aswan Moon, I had kefta and enjoyed it immensely. Leave a Comment Theme: Middle EasternPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: On the Corniche. When I visited, it was the northern most boat.

For something a bit special, try a floating restaurant such as this. It made a pleasant change from the usual rice and mush I normaly eat, but cost respectively. I also had a meal at the Hilton in Cairo. I was turned away at first for not having a tie! So I borrowed one off my host at the guesthouse I was staying at. Well, it was an experience I suppose. But could I get a smile out of that cardboard waiter? And it was oh so ssssshhhh! quiet! Give me the rice and mush down at the railway station anytime!! Leave a Comment

On our last day there we ordered everything on the menu for a giant feast, which came to be known as 'The Last Supper' . It set us back a whopping Ģ1.75 (US$2.25) but that did include drinks. And what a feast. But the main difference, as so often the case, was the hospitality. It was FUN to eat there, not a neccessity. I learned more about Siwa here than anywhere else (bearing in mind that Siwa had not made its debut in the Lonely planet at this time). Leave a Comment
