I don't have a favourite restaurant, but I would strongly advise you to try the local kitchen. It's actually very good. Don't be too afraid of infections. I ate everything for 2 weeks and never got sick... but hey, maybe I was just lucky What I mean is, don't let your fear to get sick, hold you back from tasting the local dishes. If you have the oppotunity to go and and eat in a nubian village, don't hesitate. The local food is great. But even more so is the atmosphere. We were invited to a dinner: Our host took the carpets from his house and placed them outside in front of the building. We all sat down in a big circle and enjoyed a nice meal in open air together with this nubian family. Fantastic !One thing you shouldn't do is drink tapwater. Always drink water from a bottle. You can buy waterbottles almost everywhere. Almost every little store has a little refrigerator with cold bottles. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Can't remember the name, but one of the barges which float on the Nile at Aswan...where, for reasonable amounts, one can lounge on massive cushions with gold tassels, eat taamiya and drink Egyptian Stella beer as the Nile endlessly floats past. Sheer opulent luxury (for very little money). Guides like Lonely Planet list these barges but they are easy to find on the Corniche. Location.
Taamiya (falafel), with tahina and wonderful Egyptian bread ('aysh')..unique bread unobtainable elsewhere. This is obtainable anywhere in Egypt: from a roadside stall it will cost perhaps 20 or 30 cents in US money, including a lettuce/tomato in-bread salad. By the way, I ate like that in Egypt for three months and never had a stomach problem; I even drank a few glasses of tap water, when in need.Actually, the barge-restaurants are a lot more sophisticated than that and have extensive menus. Nile fish can be tasty, though many have a lot of bones. One uniquely Egyptian food is a soup called 'Molokhiya', an odd green-brown colour usually, made with numerous items including very big vegetables one sees often being transported on open trucks (as in 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'). They look like massive 'Chinese Leaves'. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: These barges are moored to the bank of the Nile on the Corniche at Aswan. You have little or no sensation of going aboard a boat, just a succession of descending flower-and-plant-covered steps shelter

Ok, i do have positive things to say about egypt. namely in thier food. We ended up eating at KFC and McDonalds alot. but the food there is so much better than back here in the states... the Arabians demand a much higher quality than we do which makes for better food, and service. Also, it was a pleasent surpise to have a taste of home in the middle of Cairo. This is the one place, which we found out, that the gay community, if you can call it that, congr
