What a Real Egyptian Eats

by azz8206

Don't miss out on the koshary while in Egypt. It's an Egyptian staple and every restaurant is sure to sell it. It consists of macaroni, lentils, rice, caramelized onions, garlic and tomato sauce. It is quite tasty and not expensive at all in fact its the cheapest item you'll find on the menu. It'll cost you about 5LE the equivalent of about 1USD. Koshary is perfect for visitors on a budget.

Rossini: Italian and sea food.

by marimar_72

This was a villa before making some renovations to turn it into a restaurant,it`s very elegant and has it`s style.Lat time I visited it in 2009 we sat in the terrace, where a musician played the saxophone of soft music. The atmosphere of this restaurant is so romantic.I would not recommend taking any children there. And would advice for reservations. I had the pepper sauce steak, where a friend of mine had the Ravioli..then we had a tiramisu. All was so delicious!

Abu Tarek: Kushari in Cairo

by graeme83

When I arrived in Cairo following a long bus journey, the people at the place I was staying recommended this kushari restaurant. It was really good. There are options to take away (cheapest) eat downstairs or eat upstairs (most expensive). The options for sizes are more complicated than Starbucks. The choices were large, super or special! As I was hungry, I went for the special. Although it was the most expensive kushari that I paid for (7LE) it was also the best.

Kushari Restaurants: Kushari Restaurants

by graeme83

Kushari is a popular traditional Egyptian dish. It consists of rice, lentils, chickpeas, macaroni, and a spicy tomato sauce. Caramelized onions are added as a garnish. It is one of the most popular, inexpensive, and common dishes in Egypt. Most restaurants that serve kushari tend to specialize in this one dish. It is a very cheap dish and became my staple food in Egypt. The price of a meal ranged from 3LE to 8LE depending on location and size of dish.

Local cafes in every town: Eat local!

by illumina

The staple foods in Egypt are fuul (fava bean paste / soup), ta'amiya (aka felafel) and kushari (small pasta and/or rice with lentils and salsa). These dishes are usually very inexpensive, so if you're travelling on a budget you can do worse that to stick to these. A takeaway fuul sandwich (in pitta) shouldn't be more than 1LE, and a medium sized pot of kushari should be around 4 or 5LE.

Cristo's: Terrace view of Pyramids

by bdougherty

Outstanding view of Pyramids from the terrace seating and a lot of good seafood for very little cost. You can trust the food and drink (serves beer) as we ate here 5 or 6 times during our year in Cairo and never had a problem. Mezze and seafood for 60 LE - 10$US

Couldn't find out the name of the restaurant sorry: Rip Off Kebab Out of No Where

by matt10gonzalez

Where can you find a kebab that taste so awful and costs as much as eating in a 5 star Marriott Hotel in Egypt? ONLY if:1.) Your bus drops you in a food-pitstop in the middle of no where.2.) The only customers of the restaurant are the people in your bus.3.) You're foreign and don't know a single clue about Arabic except maybe "Shokran" (Thank you) only.4.) There's no menu and set prices! (Prepare to bargain the food!)5.) And finally- You've just traveled 12 hours full day by land, had no lunch or snacks and you're too hungry and exhausted to resist! If there's one memorable dinner we all had, this should be it! It was really awful! The kebab was awful! It was the worst kebab I've tasted- it had no taste like it was sick, and it was hard like rock and to make things 10x worst-we PAID $12 (I think we could have bargained lower) for 2 plates of it! That's right! The staff (or owner) charged...

Bon Appetite: An Oasis in the Middle of Chaos

by matt10gonzalez

Are you tired? Are you sick from being hassled in the pyramids? Are you sick from crossing the crazy streets here? Then come to Bon Appetite! Your oasis in the middle of chaos! (As of May 2005- NOTE!) Let the smell of the fresh (That's right! You can sit down, relax and watch Italian food being cooked in front of your eyes!) and cheap (Around 6-12 LE) Italian food charm your nose and fill your stomach for another 8 hours! And finally! Just sit down, relax and enjoy watching people and students lazing around here! This is Cairo at its most 'international'! FAMILY'S COMMENTS:MOM- "I just love Bon Appetit! It's my favorite restaurant in Cairo- it's cheap, delicious and a whole lot better than Mc. Donalds!"BROTHER- "Of course I love Bon Appetit! I even wrote about it in my site right?"DAD- "I hate Italian food, I rather eat Shawarma!" TEENAGE COUSIN- "I rather eat KFC." Delicious and...

Anywhere around Egypt! (No specific restaurant!): Don't miss SHARWARMA!!!

by michaelxxx

The first thing that I really wanted to try when going to Egypt was the Shawarma, for I heard that the Shawarma in Egypt is sooo juicy, and delicious and the best part, its CHEAP! (1-2$'s)Whenever I eat a Shawarma, I savor every bite! Its really nice to eat it in a place you can sit down, with a cozy atmosphere and a cup of coffee to go with it, and in Egypt, a place like this is not hard to find! When eating the Shawarma, don't forget to add the white sauce on it, it really blends with the flavor of the Shawarma! So remember, when you visit Egypt, let yourself try a tender juicy Shawarma! The Shawarma! Its a really great snack in the afternoon with a cup of coffee to go with it!Oh, and to make your Shawarma much tastier, you can add sprinkle some pepper and salt, and maybe ask for a tomato to go with it in your sandwich, and when you eat it like this, believe me, you will LOVE IT!!
