FELFELA: the most lovely place for dinner

by jorgejuansanchez

The atmosphere is superb, and the food fantastic. Whatever you order will be delicious, meat, fish, etc. This restaurant is a must for every visitor to Cairo. In the old times (when I first visited Egypt a few decades ago) it was the only one, in one corner of Talaat Harb Street, but now there are several in a chain around Cairo. Nevertheless the best is the original one near Tahir Square. There you will taste delicious food in an eastern atmosphere with hanging flowers, artificial small waterfalls, lute music, the grill is at sight where are prepared the shish kebabs of the fresh fish catch in the Nile River. Indeed, this is a delightful restaurant, both, for the food and for the ambiance. I suggest you foul, the national dish made with mashed beans.

Ali Baba 2: Don't miss the steak!

by Becky06

This is a seafood and steak house restaurant and the steakes are fantastic!! It is a open air restaurant on the main street and I would advise any steak lover to go you will not be dissapointed! Even if you don't like steak there are many other options available. Staff are friendly food is lovely and well priced what more could you want???

Danner: Oh the choice!

by Becky06

I have never in my life seen a menu with so much on!! Therea seafood, steak, pasta, chiken, vegetarian the list is endless!! And the prices it is so cheap and still tastes fantastic! I had salmon (and there was lots) and spagetti bol and my boyfriend had soup and steak which he said was perfect and cooked just the way he liked! Yoy may have to go early to get a table as it is a very popular restaurant and can get busy.

by Diana75

The restaurant is located on the left side of the entrance to the Sphinx and it's actually a covered terrace with a nice view to the Sphinx and the Pyramids. With only LE 25- (USD 5-) you can eat everything you like because it's an open buffet. The drinks cost LE 10- (USD 2-) per tin.The food is very good and the atmosphere is nice.

El Kebabagy: The best place in town

by clare311281

This restaurant is the best place to eat in Luxor by my opinion. Situated across the road from the Winter Palace right on the Nile, absolutely beautiful! The food is to die for and so reasonable also. The staff remember your face and the setting is just perfect. The value is also outstanding, spending roughly ?20.00 on a three course meal. A tip though is that the 'starter' is not to be compared to an English 'starter'. The Egyptian starter comes with your main course and is a meal in itself. So, if your going to have a desert i would recommend that you do not have a starter as the portions are more than generous. All food is also cooked on a barbeque outside the restaurant. My favorite dish was the duck with orange sauce. A large garlic seasoned ducks leg with the chefs wonderful orange sauce brings pure mouth watering joy to the end of your exploring days in Luxor. I can also...

The Old Winter Palace: Tea for Two

by boo5

The setting for the Old Winter Palace is beauiful, right on the Nile in the heart of Luxor overlooking the West Bank. The afternoon tea is well worth trying, its nice to get dressed up and be waited on, the service is of cource excellent and you can just picture the travellers from the 1920's in all their finery enjoying the surroundings. Compared with afternoon tea in one of the London Hotels this is very good value at ?12 for two.

Abu El Sid: Highly Recommended

by Traveller_GT

Great atmosphere, great food. I could not have gone back to this place enough. It is a little but hidden, but worth bothering to find. All dishes that I ate were great. Maybe the most memorable was the dessert. I am sorry that I forget the name, but it translates to Grandma's dessert, or something similar.

Koshary shops and sellers: Just don't count the calories!

by TheWanderingCamel

Koshary is a delicious mixture of rice, lentils, chickpeas and macaroni, topped with crisp fried onions and served with a spicy tomato sauce. Along with foul, it really is Egypt's national dish - Nutritious, filling, delicious - and so cheap - the ultimate comfort food. You'll find little cafes that sell only koshary all over the city - no humming and haa-ing over a menu there - the choice is simply what size portion - small, medium or large! You'll also find it being sold on the street from carts, whether you eat from here or not depends on how you feel your stomach can cope with street food.

Barges along the Nile in downtown: Having a bite on the Nile

by voyager37

There are some really nice barges that have been converted into restaurants that cruise on the nile in the downtown area or are just moored along the banks. most have typical Egyptian food, loved the Tahina salad,, a very good started to dip nice warm bread in.

Koshari!: Try the vegetarian food.

by marimar_72

Koshari is the traditional dish in Egypt,it`s perfect for the vegetarian people,it`s made of Rice and pasta with black lentals, served with tomatto hot sauce. You can find it in any street vendor, but personaly I eat only the home made one`s.But if you`re in Egypt, this dish is a must have,it`s the local`s popular dish!If you like chili hot sauce ask for your dish to have extra of the hot sauce...a total yummm!!!Here is a picture sent to me by my cousin who lives in Cairo of Koshari.(maybe there is a link between it`s name and being Kosher, dunno really). And by the way, this is a very low cost dish, almost less than 1$ per person(or dish). Also have an extra deep fried onions or hot sauce on the top,,to add more taste!
