Egyptian Food

by voyager37

Most of the hotels and cruise boat food was served in a buffet style. There were several choices of meats and vegetables. It was overall not too bad, at some local places it was the usual fair of kebabs and kafka. There is a dish called Tahina Salad, which is a mix of some vegetable made into a puree. It had a honey taste to it and looked like paste, but it was very good, could not get enough of it. Their salads were good too, especially the pickled carrots and cucumber, very spicy.

McDonalds: McDonalds

by lashr1999

. I order something they call McArabia which is a pita with Falafel, lettuce, tomatoes and sauce. Everyone’s soda is flat and we wonder if that is how they serve it here. This McDonalds has some good views of the city from the second story seats.

Egyptian Pancake house: Savoury or sweet - as you like.

by crewsada

Really cheap eating in the centre of the Bazaar. Simple, tasty food and made to order. Watch the chef make your pizza/pancake. Not much choice there. Its either a pancake (rather a thin crispy pizza sandwiches with a choice of savoury fillings such as cheese or meat or sweet fills such as syrup or jams.

O-negrao: A taste of Arab-Brazil

by crewsada

Want to see where locals will go on their Thursday night out. This is the place.Okay its a Brazilian restaurant (the only in Egypt) but its a good place for people watching and the food is excellent. Very slick , modern decor. The burgers are awesome.

The Aswan Moon: My Favourite Restaurant in Aswan

by Paul2001

It is rare that while visiting any city or town that I have traveled to that I have eaten in the same restaurant twice. The Aswan Moon is one of the those few exceptions. This partially because there are not all that many good restaurants in Aswan but also because I really liked this place. The Aswan Moon is on a boat sitting by the Corniche on the Nile. I ate my first lunch in Aswan here and would have my last dinner here also. At first it seemed like a great place to escape the sun and watch the feluccas sail up and down the Nile while I sucked on a beer. However the food was pretty good here and at night there was entertainment in the way of Nubian musicians. While in Egypt for the most part I kept to the local cuisine. At the Aswan Moon, I had kefta and enjoyed it immensely.

Koshari Hilton: Fast local Grub

by flynboxes

This place does Koshari which is a local Egyptian dish of pasta, lentils, rice, and tomato sauce topped with fried crispy onions. The will add a spicy sauce if you like. This is local fast food that's cheap. I'm generally not a big fan of vegetarian food but had to try this. It's great for a midday snack when wandering through Down Town Cairo. There are Western fast food joints right around the corner from this place but why waste your time with that when you can eat with the locals?

McDonald's, Arby's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardees etc.: Fast Food Delivers in Egypt

by TheWanderingCamel

I know that we don't travel to a place like Egypt and eat at fast food ..now do we? Ok, I do sometimes. I remember thinking the night before I left to live in Egypt that I would not eat KFC for a year. I quickly found out these restaurants can easily be found and actually will deliever to your door, often until 2 a.m. in the morning! I actually ate more fast food while living in Egypt than I did while living in the states. The prices were about the same as one would find n the USA, meaning they were considered expensive by Egyptians due to the exchange rate. The sad part is, I could have saved alot of money by eating more local 'fast food' which were set at local rates....and it would have tasted better too!-----Megypt

Hard Rock Cafe: Loud

by Katy77

When we were in Cairo we were taken to the Hard Rock Café.As we have a Hard Rock Café at home in the UK, this was not my idea of a place to eat when in Cairo, but as we were on an organised tour with 12 other people, we didn't have any option. We had a set European meal which was so earth shattering I can't remember what we ate (burgers I think).I was totally unimpressed, but I suppose it's ok to go into if you want to be able to tell friends back home that you had been in the Hard Rock Café in Cairo.I found nothing special about this place. The music was far too loud, the air conditioning was up full blast and we were freezing (yes, we were cold in Cairo!!!), and we were in at the same time as four European couples with about 10 noisy children, shouting, laughing and climbing on seats, this was not an experience I want to go through again. On the up side, the views over the Nile were...

Dawar al umda Restaurant: Not to be missed

by Katy77

This restaurant is in the garden of the Mercure Inn and has an Egyptian night on a Thursday night. The meal is buffet style and costs around 7 GBP for about as much as you can eat.For the main course there was a choice of rice, lamb, chicken, beef and vegetables. It was delicious. We also had a very good variety of desert. The atmosphere was totally Egyptian which was a big plus, and as we were staying in the Mercure Inn, this was really handy for us. It was a buffet and all the food was beautifully cooked and presented. Plenty to go round too.Great entertainment, belly dancer, group of musicians etc.

Nile Cruise Ship MS Norma: Eating on board of a Nile Cruise Ship

by Myndo

If you are on a Nile Cruise Ship you do not have to stay away from salads or anything else, because you fear the curse of the Pharao. It is perfectly safe to eat and drink what they offer. The selection was extremely big, what you see in the picture is only the salad buffet, and then theres a hot meal buffet (2 or 3 different meats and vegetables) and always the option to take pasta. And then there is the Dessert Buffet - you can´t believe the sweets they have in Egypt. They take great efforts to always offer something new. Even the salads change every day.The food is included into the price of the Cruise, but for the drinks you have to pay.Prices (in Egyptian pounds):Beer 16Mineral (1l) 5Coke (3 dl) 7Sprite (3dl) 7Fruit juces 8Wine 83Oh and an advise: for the wine you definitely do not have to go to Egypt. The wine they grow here is ... drinkable - as long as you stay with red and rose,...
