Cairo Tower: ~Revolving Resturant~

by freya_heaven

On top of the 185 meter Cairo is a revolving restaurant and cafe.Panoramic views over Cairo, whilst having a drink or a meal is a must if you have the time when you are in Cairo. On a clear day the Pyramids at Giza nearly 20km away can be seenThe restaurant is quite pricy, so a cheaper option is the cafe and you still get the views.

El Tahrir: Kusherie

by freya_heaven

We usually went to El Tahrir on an evening to eat, it is a Kusherie cafe. Kusherie consists of fried onions, lentils, rice and noodles all cooked together, presumably fried. It is very much a locals place to eat and the staff made us very welcome It is so cheap, a huge bowl for about 2 -3 Egyption pounds. An Ideal Backpackers Fayre (~_~) Kusherie

Stable Restaurant: ~Stable Restaurant~

by freya_heaven

We were invited by the stable owner to join them all for lunch. Not wanting to offend we accepted & all sat on the floor above the Stable block eating out of a large bowl in the middle of us with our fingers. Flies everywhere! I just hope all hands were washed after clearing out the stables before lunch! Helen & I were actually expecting to be ill later that day because of the lunch, but suprisingly & Thankfully were not.! Very generous of them though

Aswan Moon: Aswan Sunsets

by freya_heaven

In Aswan we went to Aswan Moon on the river front & as you can see we had a beautiful sunset. We had such a brilliant evening there, on the table behind us were 6 Nubian Men, impressively dressed in their white robes. Who through the meal kept throwing amusing comment over to us& then later Joined us. They were so funny, they had us in stitches for hours. An excellent night (~_~)

Drinks

by kingtut707

Coffee Developed and popularized in the Middle East, the drinking of ahwa (coffee) remains a national tradition, and local coffeehouses still cater to men who come to drink coffee, discuss politics, play tawla (backgammon), listen to "Oriental" (Egyptian) music, and smoke the shiisha (water pipe). Although the traditional poetry and high-powered politics have migrated to fancy homes and offices, the coffee remains. You will also be offered the thick, strong, but tasty brew in homes, offices, and bazaar shops. Turkish coffee is made from finely powdered beans brewed in a small pot. As the water just begins to boil, the grounds float to the surface in a dark foam; the ahwa is brought to you still in the pot and poured into a demitasse. The heavier grounds sink to the bottom of the cup and the lighter ones form a foam on the top, the mark of a perfectly brewed cup. Sip carefully to avoid...

FOOD

by kingtut707

In Egypt, dining out can range from stand-up sandwich bars to luxurious five-course meals. You can find small, inexpensive establishments that serve good Egyptian food for only a few pounds. If you're in a hurry, try the local snack bars. While the cubbyholes off the street (which probably have running water) are generally safe. The larger cities even have Western-style fast-food chains like McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken, but they're relatively expensive. In cities both food and water are safe although the change in your diet may produce short-term gastrointestinal upsets. EGYPTIAN MEALS Although Egyptian eating habits may seem erratic, most natives begin the day with a light breakfast of beans (or bean cakes), eggs, and/or pickles, cheeses, and jams. Most families eat their large, starchy lunch around 1400-1700 and follow it with a siesta. They may take a British-style tea at...

Seasons Restaurant ( Four Seasons Hotel): Relaxing atmosphere, excellent service, food, wine

by Bavavia

I really enjoyed this restaurant. Becuase it is a bit more pricey than most in the area, it was not too crowded and easy to get in without a reservation . The food was excellent....and the wine list was excellent and the service. I ate here just about every night of my stay....The restaurant overlooks the nile and is very cozy inside too. I cannot remember what I ordered because I ate here several times......I think i had some kind of fish dish one night and pasta one night......

Cusheries & Pitta: I didnt really eat in...

by freya_heaven

I didnt really eat in restaurants, I was a poor backpacker & not too easy also being vegetarian! We did eat at a cusherie ( not sure of the spelling) cafe most nights in Cairo, Made a nice change from Banana Pitta!Very Friendly in there, very clean, very cheap & very good service. Cusherie

Anywhere in Egypt: Mmm Koshery

by Gysel

Try the Koshery in Cairo or anywhere else you might be, it's so good, just some pasta and lentils and they bring you some tomato sauce and crispy onions to pour over your meal, The hot sauce is oh so good too, if you can handle it. Very cheap.

Aswan Moon: Aswan Moon

by hayward68

Cool restaurant located in a boat on the Nile, it's anchored permanently there. We were here a few times and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. You might get a wee visitor as Alison did. The upper level of the boat has tables and chairs perfect for enjoying a local beer and shisha. I tried my first shisha here and the atmosphere of the place just made it so much more interesting. Sit back, look up to the stars in the clear night sky and think about the fact that you are actually in Egypt :-)I ordered duck one day which was really nice although rather small. Others in my group had it at lunchtime and their portion was much larger than mine. So be prepared if you order that.
