Africa: A little taste of Africa

by hayward68

Bowls of food are brought out and everyone just helped themselves. There was lots to choose from and everything was delicious. During Ramadan there is no alcohol available though. There were dishes such as fried eggplant (which I came to love while in Egypt), potatoes and other vegetable dishes. Several meat dishes including lamb which I didn't try so I can't tell you how good it was. The restaurant is fairly open air, not quite enclosed so you feel like you're eating outside. The usual carbonated drinks were available, Sprite and Coke. I believe it was 17 Egyptian Pounds for the set meal. If you're on the east bank of the Nile, you can make reservations and they'll send their boat over to pick you up to bring you tot he west bank. The fried eggplant was done really well here, I kept going back for more of it.

Eating the Egyptian way

by Oana_bic

Our main concern on the boat were the meals:) I was even waking up by 7am to catch the breakfast as the cookies (sweet pastries such as halawa) were really delicious...Typical breakfast consists of tea and foul, or beans, bread and cheese or eggs and jam. Lunch consisted of cooked chicken, beef or lamb, fish, vegetables with rice, and lots of salads. Oh, and one tip about Egyptian bread - really good - whole wheat, round and hollow, and can be filled with beans, meat, vegetables or cheese.By 5 pm we had tea time served again with many cookies..mmmand again by 8pm, dinner time, pretty much like lunch. A traditional dessert is basboussa, a sweet cake made with yogurt, semolina, butter and milk covered with syrup.

Buffet Lunch in Luxor

by Cynthia_marie

After spending the day in Luxor, we were taken by boat across the Nile to this restaurant. The restaurant was located inside a beautiful hotel within Luxor. It was buffet style but very good. This lunch was also included in the price of the day excursion. Well worth the trip !!!!

everywhere: Shisha Smoking

by Anita_Porec

Shisha is not a drug. It's flavoured tabacco smoked through a pipe. Not hashish.....It;s awesome:)))))Apple, mango, strawberry, mint........mmmmmmTook one home (pipe) and tons of tabacco. You can buy one for about 60 LE (a mid -size) or a full size for 90-100 LE.

Hilton Restaurant: Cheap and - right there!

by Anita_Porec

This place is righ in Cairo downtown (by the traffic circle) and next to the Egyptian Museum. We had KOSHARI ( a mixture of pasta, rice and nuts) for 4.00 LE each (this is apprx. 1.00 canadian) + it included a bottle of water. BTW, Koshari is awesome :)

ali baba: no thiefs here

by sds7786

it is a rooftop restaurant overlooking luxor temple, i suggest going at night to catch a breeze and look at the illuminated temple. the cuizine is varied and the help is great. make sure that you get to meet the manager and don't let any say they told you to go there, a man was tryin to get a tip from the manager for giving him business, too bad the manager knew we were repeat customers and kicked him out tomato soup and the bread is delish! susan has a fetish for tomato soup and juice and claims they make the best soup in all of egypt. the bread is also good like most home made.

kings head pub: you are the company you keep

by sds7786

it's a warm little english pub with the friendliest staff in the world. there is a pool table and the food and drinks are all reasonably priced. make sure you get a chance to meet all the guys, they are a barrell of laughs. the pizza margarita is like none other. cannot be duplicated, trust me i've tried. absolutely the best pizza i've ever had, and the sex in a felucca cocktail is a must

Great food!

by jenniferhen

All around you you will smell the Egyptian cuisine and my advice is to try it!! We went out and ate locally alot of the time and could not have been more pleased with our choice to do so. There was a table full of food for a very low price. We never got sick eating out but be sure to ask around as to which restaurants are good. The locals usally will steer you in the right direction of a great place.
