Just a few hour busdrive from Luxor (in a police escort unfortunately) you will find Dendera where you HAVE to visit the Hathor Temple and all the buildings surrounding it. I have seen a lot of temples allready but this one beats them all. One of the reasons that the temple has been preserved so well inside is because it still has a roof!! It is absolutely stunning to walk around and it is impossible to really see and grasp it all in the 2 hours time you have before the escort goes back to Luxor..:-(. One of the famous things is the Zodiac Calendar which is on the first floor. Hathor was defender of children amnog other things. But the temple isn't all there is! You will see the whole area is surrounded by Roman walls and within these walls you can walk down to Cleopatra's swimmingpool (she came her in the summer), a beautiful Isis temple and much more. THIS IS REALLY A HOT TIP! Leave a Comment Directions: Arrange a private cab or book a trip through at one of the many agencies in Luxor

Feluccas by Joenes If you want a relaxing afternoon take a felucca (small sailing boat) in the afternoon and let it take you to Banana Island where you will have to pay 5 LE (Egyptian Pounds) and you will get a tour over the island where they grow banana's, oranges, mangos and let you eat as many as you want. After you have visited the island let the felucca stay on the water to watch the beautiful sunset over the Nile! Leave a Comment Directions: Just walk on the boulevard alongside the Nile and they will find you...:-)

When you want to unwind a bit just rent a bike and cycle to Crocodile Island and you will pass a lot of "real life" scenes on the way. The island itself is just a big resort. Leave a Comment Directions: Cycle towards the Sheraton and go left just before it and just follow the road to the right.

There is still a LOT to discover and if you go to Egypt in the winter you might get lucky like we did. The site on the picture is right next to the Ramesseum and they are working on the temple of Amenhotep. Leave a Comment Directions: Westbank of the Nile

This is the death temple of Ramses III. Medinet Habu stands for "City of Habu" where this temple was build. To me one of the most impressive and most beautiful temples in Luxor. It is very big and on a lot of walls the colours survived the 3000 years!!!!! It makes you feel very small and when you can imagine how it must have looked back then, with also a lot of gold an marble floors, you feel even smaller....:-)) Leave a Comment Directions: West Bank of the Nile

Very impressive temple . Things to see here are for instance the pieces of the biggest statue of a farao ever made in Egypt and the carving of the battle of Cadisj against the hitites which was the result of the first treaty ever. Almost on every piece of stone Egyptians carved paintings or stories and all with a meaning! Leave a Comment Directions: West Bank of the Nile

This Pyramid is not handmade and is the main reason the Egyptians build The Valley of the Kings where they did. From all sides it has the shape of a pyramid! Leave a Comment Directions: Close to the Valley of the Kings on the westbank of the Nile, Luxor

These two huge statues where once the guards of the temple of Amenhophis III on the westbank of the Nile. They are made out of 1 piece of stone!!!!! Unbelievable they were able to pull this off 3000 years ago. Leave a Comment Directions: Westbank of the Nile, Luxor

In this workers village lived all the people that were working on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The road from the village to the valley is still there. The people who lived here where not allowed to leave the village because the place of the tombs had to stay a secret. It is hard to believe that at least 500 people lived in this village with very narrow "streets". On top of the hill you will see houses for the French archeologists when they came over. Leave a Comment Directions: West Bank of the Nile just next to the Valley of the Kings

In the Valley of the Nobles the rich and important people were buried as well as the priests. In contrast with the Valley of the Kings it feels more real because they did not make it some sort of "tourist paradise" and if you are lucky you'll have a guide that shows you mummies and mummy leftovers. It is fun and interesting to go as deep as your guide wants to take you! Leave a Comment Directions: West Bank of the Nile
