Excursion to the Dead Sea Spa
The Dead Sea Spa is located on the shore of the Dead Sea about 45 kilometres south-west of Amman. It has a private beach and two swimming pools, with a sun-deck and sun loungers. There is a restaurant and a pool bar. In the spa therapists offer mud-pack and other skin and beauty treatments. There are also 2 small suphur pools which you can spend no more than 15 minutes in. After that shower and stroll down to the mud trough and cover yourself from head to toe, then take a walk down to the sea (about 10 mins) As you walk the sun starts to bake the mud which draws out many toxins. You can either choose to shower it off before getting into the sea or scrub it off in the sea. You get a salt water exfoliation at the same time and your skin feels silky and soft.

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth and is renowned for its saline waters. It is a great place to relax either with a gentle float or beside a child-friendly swimming pool. When you reach the Dead Sea, you will be able to look across to the Palaestinian West Bank, and see the pillar of salt said to be Lot’s Wife, who was turned to salt by God when she looked back at the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Owing to its high concentration of salts, even a non-swimmer can float on the Dead Sea quite safely. You can even lie on your back like an otter in but take care not to get the water in your eyes or mouth.

There is a restaurant, pool, spa, showers and toilet facilities here plus a shuttle bus which runs to and from the spa to the dead sea if you do not feel like walking.

    Take a Tour to Masada
Two thousand years after its construction, the northern palace perched on the precipitous northern cliff edge of the Masada plateau remains a spectacular tourist attraction. It can be reached by cable car or you take a gruelling hike up the mountain if you are feeling energetic. The 'hanging-palace' on the northern cliff of Masada has some walls which were plastered externally and internally, with frescoes decorating the principal rooms some of which can still be seen clearly.

Masada is renowned for the palaces and fortifications of Herod the Great (reigned 37-4 BC), king of Judaea under the Romans, and for its resistance to the Roman siege in AD 72-73. Following the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Second Temple (ad 70), the Masada garrison--the last remnant of Jewish rule in Palestine--refused to surrender and was besieged by the Roman legion X Fretensis under Flavius Silva. Masada's unequaled defensive site baffled even the Romans' highly developed siegecraft for a time. It took the Roman army of almost 15,000, fighting a defending force of less than 1,000, including women and children, almost two years to subdue the fortress.

  • Directions: Masada occupies the entire top of an isolated hill near the southwest coast of the Dead Sea. The rhomboid-shaped mountain towers 1,424 feet (434 m) above the level of the Dead Sea. It has a summit area of about 18 acres (7 hectares).

    Philae Temple
Pretty nice temple. They actually picked up this temple and moved it to prevent it from getting submerged under water. That's impressive.

Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel
There are 4 very large statues of King Ramses II at the temple. Inside the temple, there are some impressive carvings/art. Next to Ramses II temple is his wife's temple.

    Cairo Museum of antiquities
This is one of the most incredible museums I have ever been to. It costs 50 EGP to get in. There are 2 floors and the place is full of mummies, sarcophagi, statues, and other ancient artifacts. The organization is a little loose though...Many of the exhibits don't have any kind of info saying what they are. There are a few ways to get the info though: You can hire one of the guides outside the museum near the fountain, you can rent the audio guide inside for 20 egyptian pounds ( 4dollars?) but they will require you to leave your passport, or you can find an in depth book that explains the place inside and out. there is a little book shop right inside the doors that might have something like this (DON'T buy a map from there, they are useless). I can't vouch for the guides-who knows how much they really know and how much they actually make up. The price for the live guides is always negotiable. They will tell you some ridiculous price but keep walking away until they stop chasing you for the best price. Also beware of them quoting you in US dollars.
The audio guide was good but it only has info on 100 items and will literally take you 7 hours if you start from the beginning (you can skip around and go at your own pace if you want but sometimes the numbers on the exhibits are difficult to find).
If you like egyptology, then plan to stay here for a long time...maybe even a few days. There is a royal mummy exhibit inside that costs an extra 100 EGP (50egp for students) that is TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY! King Tut exhibit is one of the highlights.

    Pyramids and Sphinx
These are every bit as amazing as you'd imagine. To stand by them and imagine how people without mechanised technology erected such enormous structures is just mind-blowing. Obviously you can get some wonderful photos too (unfortunately I lost mine, hence the lack of any on this page), but you won't have the place to yourself - far from it! I went in December, a relatively quiet month, and it was SWARMING with tourists and hawkers. You won't have a moment's peace, and a trip into the interior of Pyramid Three is a very hurried affair. Still, well worth seeing one of the Wonders of the World for yourself; photos alone cannot do them justice.

    The Egyptian Museum
The Egyptian Museum in Cairo has the biggest museum collection in the world! You will be lucky to get through everything in a day. With Egypt being one of the oldest civiliations in the world, the exhibits are of course, more than ancient. Ventilation was horrible in some parts and it smelt of a huge warehouse full of dusty artefacts. There is an extrance fee to enter the museum and a separate fee to get into the Mummy Room which is an absolutely must! The pungent here is literally obvious as soon as you enter - the smell of dead people...

The beauty of the Pyramids of Giza
  • Tip Rating:
  • Most people do not know the pyramids are so close to Cairo. Well, I have to admit I didn't! These stunning wonders of the whole are breathtaking. It's amazing how they built these structures thousands of years ago. If you have enough time, find out how u can get in and climb one of the Pyramids. Watch those dodgy men in military uniform with huge machine guns guarding the Pyramids. Officially, they are there to protect these ancient structures from any vandalism and climbing the stone blocks is strictly prohibited....unless you give a tip of course! Drink plenty of water, it gets terribly hot!
