Pyramids of Giza

by grayfo

On the plateau of Giza nearby Cairo you find the world famous Pyramids, there may be numerous pictures of the Pyramids, but they will never express the feeling of amazement that comes over you from actually being there, that feeling was at its highest when we approached the Pyramids through the streets of Giza, Cairo. It is not until you get close up that you can appreciate the feat and engineering that must have been involved in the building the Pyramids. Each block is Huge. The Pyramid of Cheops took 30 years in the making, 10 to build the causeway & earth ramps and 20 to actually build the PyramidJune 1995See My Travel Page for more information.

Cairo

by grayfo

Cairo is the largest city in the Middle East and Africa with an estimated population of between 13 and 15 million people. Locals like to call Cairo "the Mother of the World". While al-Qahirah is the official name of the city, in the Egyptian language it is simply called by the name of the country, Masr. June 1995See My Travel Page for more information.

Port Said

The name Port Said was chosen by a committee from Great Britain, France, Russia, Austria, Spain and Piedmont.June 1995See My Travel Page for more information.

Diving at Sharm el-Sheikh

by DEY

I know there is instability in Egypt but I loved diving the Red Sea when I lived in Cairo. Sharm el-Sheikh was the first resort I visited. You can dive via a day boat or a live aboard. There is a variety of diving there from coral reefs to wreck diving.

The monastary is the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in the World built on the site where Moses (Prophet Musa) talked to God via the Burning Bush, and the well of Moses which is actually an underground spring and visit the church and see the laarge collection of religious art which is amazing even for a non religious person (of course thay ask for an extra entrance fee to the gallery)I advise people to read up on this place before they go to enhance thier visit http://st-katherine.net/en/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=29you really should make this trip if you can I will never forget it

Luxor

by croisbeauty

It was pretty big shock after stepping out from the well air-conditioned bus which took us from Hurghada to Luxor. Our tour-guide told us and aworned us to expect very hot day and extremelly high temperature but it was all beyond any resonable expectation. I was in Sahara desert, under 55C degrees, but never before felt such a heat. The whole ground look alike burned from the sun, stone and dust all around and not a bit of any greenery. We were good advised to bring along at least one big bottle of water, it is a must here!%a*

Alexandria

by al2401

This is a fascinating city - typically Mediterranean yet typically Egypt. There is a lot to see here. The new library, built on the site of the ancient one has tours and is worth a visit if only for the architecture. There is Qaitbay Fort built right on the Mediterranean. The beaches are very popular and the Stanly bridge is amazing. You can't go without seeing the Roman Odeum and Catacombs. You are also close to Rosetta and not far from El Alamein.
