Red Sea's Beauties

by dr.firas

There is nothing to compare to the sheer beauty of a reef dive in the Red Sea. Below are just some of the wonderful creatures that we have been fortunate enough to see on some of the dive tripsOne of the most famous fishes there is the Angel fish: There are over 70 different species of Angelfish found in warm ocean waters around much of the world, a few species are from fresh water. Angelfish belong to the family Pomacanthus. These brightly-coloured, flattened body fish live in coral reefs in tropical seas and shallow subtropical waters. Angelfish reproduce by laying hundreds of eggs at a time. The first gill cover has a spine (pre-opercula) and this can help distinguish Angelfish from the closely-related butterfly fish. Most species of Angelfish are herbivores (plant-eaters).

A chronologically correct way to see the pyramids

by Tijavi

Some tourists couldn't resist the urge to rush towards Giza for the Pyramids. But if you could just stretch that excitement a little bit more, you may be rewarded with a more enriching experience - and one that puts it into proper historical context. Instead, arrange a trip to (in strict order) Saqqara, Dashur, and lastly Giza.In Saqqara, one finds the 1st attempts at pyramid building - from the mastaba to the step pyramid. There are 11 pyramids in Saqqara with the Step Pyramid of Zoser and its surrounding funerary complex as the main highlights. It was built by Imhotep, Zoser's chief architect in around 2650 BC and regarded as the world's earliest stone monument. More of the pyramids of Saqqara here.Head 10 kms south to Dashur where attempts to improve earlier techniques produced the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, the first true pyramid. Built by Sneferu, the Red Pyramid is the most...

Cruising the Nile with Travco

by Tijavi

Travco is one of the major tour and cruise operators in Egypt and have some of the most luxurious ships. As I was traveling solo, I paid a bit more at US$ 160/night. In addition to the tastefully done and clean cabins, cost includes transportation, guide, tickets to monuments and all buffet meals (ex-drinks).What I like1) Cabins are clean and tastefully done-puts some 5-star rooms to shame. I took Travco's Crown Jubilee, which was one of their more luxuriously-appointed vessels.2) Crew are friendly and helpful, except for one baksheesh-hungry staff who wanted to extort after helping me with my baggage. Please see note on giving tips below on why I didn't give him a single piastre.3) As I was traveling alone I was given my own guide - which meant more flexibility in doing the monuments, and independence in asking even the most rubbish of questions. Don't take anything they say as the...

Luxor felluccas and hot air ballooning

by Serenity_DK

The felluccas and river taxi's - on average £2.00 - this is not to be missed, the river taxi's are everywhere along the nile and trust me there not hard to find, you will get locals asking you if you fancy a ride in there fellucca, you need to do this at least once on your vacation, there handy if your hotel is on the nile as its a nicer way to get to the centre of luxor than a taxi, but if your hotel isnt on the nile just have a rise on one anyway, they will offer you egyptian mint tea, and there hospitality is second to none, there is nothing better than travelling on a river taxi or fellucca late at night watching the sun go down over the nile, 'river taxi's have an outboard engine, felluccas are sailboats!Hot air Ballooning over the nile - around £27.00 per person, this is a not to be missed adventure over the nile, if your lucky enough you will get to see the sun rise over the nile...

Luxor Delights

by Serenity_DK

Fellahs tent night - around £20.00 per person real touristy night but worth every penny, can be booked through your local tour operator or directly through the hotel movenpick luxor, you arrive at the hotel movenpick and are given your own traditional egyptian dress to wear and are allowed to keep!, you are taken on a fellucca ride on the nile then arrive for your night of traditional folklore and traditional food, all food and drink is free. you get to ride an egyptian camel, smoke an egyptian hookah, basically have a fantastic evening, this is not to be missed as a touristy thing its good fun!The Bazzaar - Luxor - this is the main shopping area of luxor and an experience i have to say, be warned you will get hassled by the shop traders but see it as a game of chess and you will be fine, dozens of shops selling you egyptian souvenirs, market selling again souvenirs and local produce,...

The delights of Luxor

by Serenity_DK

What isnt there to do in Luxor is easier to typeLuxor Temple is well worth a visit, Price - £8.00 per person but every penny was worth it when you see this temple, it can take you on average a good hour or so to get round it. Luxor Museum - Price - £4.00 per person, we where not overly taken on the museum, it was okay but thats all, some of the security guards we noticed in the museum where not too pleased to have kids in there, and continuously watched them like hawks and moved them on. Tomb of the kings - Price - around £2.00 for just three tombs, this place is amazing, the artwork in the tombs just has to be seen to be believed, a word of warning for here please take your sun screen and a hat and plenty of water, temperatures here can get as high as 52 degrees, and some of the tombs are hard going as you have to do a lot of climbing of stairs and purpose built walkways so good...

Cairo

by vesna04

Cairo, the largest "Arab" city is offering an exciting places to visit, a good night life and is a best place to experiance the egiptian way of life. It was something completly different to me and I left it with a warm wish to return and find out a lot more about its hidden and not hidden places. I will write more in my pages devoted to Cairo itself.

Go fish, sail down the Nile, shop, have fun

by zanzooni

There are so many things to see and do in Egypt and I for one am disappointed that I didn't get to do all that I wanted to. I had a mission to accomplish plus I managed to get pretty sick while there, sick enough to think I should go to the hospital, but managed to pull through with out going. DRINK ONLY BOTTLED WATER THAT YOU PURCHASED!!! I highly recommend taking a falukka ride, going to the beach in Alexandria, see all that you can see and experience life as a local.
