Egypt Toilets - from public to private

by VZ-Pam

Most toilets from airport to private facilities or historical tourist site have people guarding the entry for money. There is a sign in the airport saying NO TIPPING IN BATHROOM but somehow you will find them asking you for it. Don't give them money and prepare yourself with tissue paper all the time. Those tricky ones took the rolls of tissue out to force you to pay them. However, you dont really have to pay them if you bring your own in those places like inside the airport. Just ignor them. Even if you have to pay, expect 1 LE only & they will only give you 2 squares of tissue paper per tip. Its such a rip off.

Vendors

by VZ-Pam

Vendors in Egypt always charge foreigners double to triple the price of what local pays. Try to check out how much local people pay and you follow to pay with exact change in your hand. Some may argue but try insist your price. Also, prepare a cheat sheet of arabic numbers to match what the price wrote over there.

watch your self

by rikhelle

Every thing in Egypt is a tourist trap, that is how they make their living, so be careful, simple things like them asking you if you want to have a photo with them, it seam’s innocent enough, so you have your photo taken with them, then they ask you to pay them and when you refuse they start a big brawl. Also don't get on a camel around the pyramids it is some times a kidnapping attempt Always barter when you want to buy some thing, set a price first and stick to it. Best thing to do is just stick to what you have come to see and do and don't listen to the rest of the haggle

the pyramids

by silencelb

all egyptians around the pyramids are a real rippoff , especially ones with camels and horses , don't take a ride with them , even if your tour co. suggested so , the worst tour co. i ever seen in the world is GTC , stay away of them , unprofessional .

Think you've seen it all?!

by onebikeonehorse

My wife and I just left egypt. REMEMBER THIS IF YOU REMEMBER ANYTHING: all of the Papyrus is printed by a MACHINE! The only part of the tourist papyrus that is not printed, is the signature that is sometimes done in house. We went to Khan a Khalili and the lies and junk were everywhere. It was overwhelming. WE met an egyptian friend that told us the "secrets" and he told us the real prices of things and it was a good thing we met him. We almost paid waaaaaay too much for some nicer prints on the papyrus. One man even told us that there were "70 artists that hand painted all of the papyrus in egypt" Hmmm....70 people, 1.9 million tourists a year...the math doesn't work for me. Remember this also, you are in CHARGE of your trip and the scammers or high pressure sales people know that most tourists have GUILT emotions waiting to get out. They will give you tea, chat about your country, get...

Pyramids in Giza - don't get scammed

by BKarin

If you ever come to Cairo as naive as me, do not arrange yourself a trip to pyramids with a hotel on your first day! at that time you still don't know the prices around, have no idea how to deal with Egyptians. They will rip you off from A to Z. My driver gave impression of being very helpfull, but all he did was taking us to different stores where we overpayed souvenirs. And we overpayed pyramids sightseing on horse and camel. Make sure you bargin for price, and look around first so you don't overpay your expirience.

Giza Pyramids- The Rip Off Pyramids!

by matt10gonzalez

In movies, in history books, in ads, in the beautiful pictures of your friends (If they only took the Pyramids or the Sphinx), the Pyramids of Giza really appears like a fascinating and peaceful place. In reality however, it really is beautiful...BUT it's FAR from peaceful! It's CHAOTIC!!!The hassles and rip-offs here are good enough to drive the average traveler nuts! Here's a short list of the things that happen every day in the pyramids that can drive you nuts! 1.) 50-100 LE for a taxi ride to the pyramids. (Overpriced!)Nuts rating: 3. Well, if you're on a budget, you might regret like you'll say you could have used that for ice cream or something, but it's still not so bad.2.) Persistent children/hawkers FORCING you to buy their stuff! (It happens in Angkor Wat, Intramuros Manila and many places but they're very much like a broken record in Giza!)Nuts rating: 5. Okay, this is a bit...

Famous Tombs of Luxor-Is the Treasure still there?

by matt10gonzalez

Ah...the famous tombs of Luxor! If you didn't take your history for granted, this is the famous cemetery where all the Pharaohs (including the females) were buried with lots and lots of BEAUTIFUL TREASURE! (Worth more than a million beautiful dollars!!!) And this is no 'Fantasy' or made-up joke if you're an Archeologist! Impossible or not, when the whole world thought all the tombs in this cemetery were dugged up, believe it or not, there's still HIDDEN tombs (With still treasures intact!) up to these times! And I mean 2007, (Not the 1920s!) and onwards!Proof? Check out this new tomb in the Valley of the Kings: "KV 63." Here's the website: http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/kv63.htmCould you believe it? It was just very near the Famous King Tut's tomb! Imagine how thrilled (and how happy) a tourist will be if she/he ever stumbled upon it and stole all the beautiful treasures!...

Aggressive Vendors in Egypt

by startrekkie

I just returned from a guided tour of Egypt. The tour was fabulous. But I've never run into so many aggressive, pushy, in-your-face vendors. They'll come right up to you with offers without giving you a chance to look around and browse. That often deterred people from shopping who might be interested in something. In one case, I walked into a stall and was almost blocked from leaving until I shouted the young man out of the way. At the pyramids, a camel driver asked me to take a picture of him, then aggressively tried to get me to pose with the camel. Be loud and they usually back down. The best thing to do is shop and ignor the sales talk. Keep walking and say "La Shakran" (Arabic for "No Thank You").At the Step Pyramid, I got on a camel for a photo op. We agreed to 10 pounds ($2) before I got on. After I got off, the "supervisor" tried to up the price to $5. I said no, paid 10 pounds,...

Feluccas, Are These Romantic Beauties Really Worth

by matt10gonzalez

Ah...the feluccas! Egypt won't be complete without it! (Especially Aswan!) These romantic beauties that sail the entire Nile River up to Aswan are makes Egypt more exotic! Who wouldn't be enticed to ride on them?Honestly, I wouldn't want to ride it- like the gondolas of Venice, I find it pretty boring and pricey. Don't get me wrong, some PEOPLE really did find it boring! I saw tourists falling asleep while riding it. But I'm not saying it's totally boring- at least, when you ride the feluccas, at least you can get a chance to see Aswan RELAXED. And no kidding! Some people really did love the feluccas!Honeymooning couples! Wow! I saw some couples really making the most out of their ride! But don't think that the feluccas are a flop- they aren't. In fact, without them, the pride and symbol of Aswan and the Nile river will be gone. It's just, especially if you're on a budget, there are...
